Spring Break Haul

Hello and happy Tuesday friends. As you may know from my Weekly Wrap Up #13, I was out of state this past weekend visiting with my aunt and uncle. Obviously we had to do a little bit of shopping and we did just that. Today I am going to be showing you what I picked up from the thrift store and the outlets. I will try and link as much as I can below. I will be featuring some of my new clothing pieces in a Spring Lookbook soon so stay tuned! Thank you so much for reading, I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below. With love, McKenz.

Thrift Store

I went in to the thrift store with an open mind and high hopes in finding a pair of boot cut jeans. I got lucky and found this pair from Hollister and these cute cheetah flats that were new with tags from Target! I also found a Mossimo army vest that was new with tags bu didn’t make it into today’s post. Don’t worry, it’ll be featured soon!

TJ Maxx

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

Last year I purchased a pair of fake Birkenstocks from Target and I wore them like there was no tomorrow. I was so happy when I went to TJ Maxx and found the other style for only $16. I couldn’t pass them up and am so pleased that I decided to purchase them.

American Eagle

I scored big time at American Eagle and I am so so so happy with everything I picked up. Yellow has slowly become my new favorite color. For some reason it just makes me so happy. I picked up this striped top, and this baseball style tee in two different colors (clearance). This bralette was on sale for $16 from Aerie and I am so pleased with it. Along with this long sleeve wrap shirt that will be perfect for a night out.

Gap

I have been wanting a pair of white jeans for the longest time. Gap has some of the best quality jeans so I finally decided to just go for it. This pair was on sale for $27 and I am so pleased with this purchase because I know how much use I’ll get out of them. I also got this mint green button up which will be perfect for church to throw on with some Jack Rogers.

Weekly Wrap Up

Weekly Wrap Up #13

Happy Monday everyone, my heart is so full right now. I am so sorry that this post is overdue, as yesterday was Easter Sunday and I was on vacation visiting family was not able to find the time to sit down and recap my week. Now onto the numbers, today I hit 100 followers here on StyledByMcKenz. It sounds like a small number but I am so pleased, thank you to EVERYONE who reads my posts and leaves my little blog some love. I can not express my gratitude enough. Also, thank you so much for helping me reach 420 followers on Instagram! I know last week I said that there would be outfit of the week pictures this week but I was home sick with the flu Monday and Tuesday, Spring Break started on Thursday, and I was traveling two of those days so I ended up dressing like a bum most of this week. I promise this week there will be outfits though! I’m considering doing the wearwhatwhereapril style challenge that some of the girls on Instagram host, I’ll let you know if I end up doing it! Anyways sorry for such a long introduction I just felt the need to catch up with you all, thank you again! With love, McKenz

3.21.16- Unfortunately today I was stuck home with a fever over 103 and the flu. On the plus side, I finished Gossip Girl today. I am not surprised, as most people said I would be. I am so sad to let it go, although I started Friday Night Lights and am loving it.

3.22.16- Today I was also stuck in bed watching tv and coughing up a storm. I was able to spend lots of time reading the Bible and found some super awesome verses in Proverbs today!

3.23.16- Today was the last day of school before Spring Break and I managed to get to school. I was so happy I was able to so I could see Jeanie as much as possible before we parted separate ways. I also didn’t have theater today and was able to go watch my friends at the track meet!

3.24.16- Today was so much fun, I woke up early for the first day of break and met up with Celia and Jeanie. We ended up meeting up with some of our friends and playing basketball for the next few hours. We than went to the lacrosse game and I was able to say goodbye to everyone before I left for the weekend.

3.25.16- Today was a travel day. We left bright and early to go visit my aunt for the weekend. We went out to a Mexican restaurant for dinner and I was able to break out my leather jacket which made me so happy. My jeans are from Gap, jacket is from Target, tank is from Old Navy as well as my booties.

3.26.16- Today we did some major damage at the Outlet Mall and thrift store. It was a blast so stay tuned for the haul coming soon! I also got to dye some Easter eggs. I hate the taste of hard boiled eggs but it sure was fun decorating them.

3.27.16- Happy Easter everyone. He is risen! Today we went to church and had a wonderful Easter dinner. It was so much fun spending quality time with the family. Today (Monday) we came home. I am so pleased with my weekend and had a blast!

This is my second time doing this tag and I am so thankful for this opportunity. I hope you enjoy getting to know me better. If you missed yesterdays Winter Formal GRWM, click here. With love, McKenz

  • Nominate 11 bloggers for the Liebster award
  • Ask your nominees to answer 11 questions

What is the best deal you have ever gotten?

I purchased my lace up flats for only $15.00 from Old Navy. These were such a steal and I wear them at least twice a week. They’re not super comfortable but they look cute and chic no matter what they’re paired with.

What is the most thrilling thing you’ve ever done?

I would say that cheering on the football team from the sidelines is the most thrilling thing I’ve ever done. It sounds silly but there’s such an overwhelming feeling of home and love when I’m screaming my lungs out for the team. It’s a feeling I could never put a price on.

What Disney princess do you relate to most and why?

I don’t really think I resemble any of the Disney princesses but if I had to chose one i would pick Belle because she wears a yellow dress and yellow makes me happy.

Do you have a hidden talent?

It’s not exactly hidden but I love doing my own makeup and others peoples as well. I love experimenting with crazy colors and costume looks in my free time. I’m helping my schools drama club backstage with hair and makeup as well!

What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

My favorite girl scout cookie would have to be Thin Mints.

What is your biggest fashion “no-no”?

My biggest fashion “no-no” is definitely mixing navy and black. Other people can pull it off but I’ve never been able to. I also would never wear a groutfit. (grey on grey outfit)

What was your favorite toy when you were little?

My favorite toy as a child was definitely Polly Pockets. My sister and I used to have so many of them and we loved changing their outfits and making them go on “dates” with one another.

If you could only go on one vacation with one person where would you go and who would you go with?

If I had the chance to, I would go to the Dominican Republic with my sister. It looks so beautiful there and I would love to travel the world with Madison if I ever got the opportunity to.

What is your favorite clothing piece to date?

My favorite clothing piece in my closet is by far my army jacket. It’s so versatile and looks perfect with almost every outfit. You can easily transition it into every season too.

What is at the top of your bucket list?

Something I want to do before I die, although I doubt will happen, is to travel to all fifty states. So far I think I’ve been to twelve.

I nominate ALL of you to answer the following questions:

  1. If you could shop at one store for the rest of you life what would it be and why?
  2. What is your favorite movie?
  3. If you were given a letter telling you when you’ll die would you read it?
  4. What is your favorite drink to get from Dunkin?
  5. What is your favorite pair of shoes and why?
  6. What book made you look at life differently?
  7. What is the craziest thing you would do for someone?
  8. What is your favorite home cooked meal?
  9. Are you musically talented?
  10. What trend do you hope never goes out of style?
  11. Do you prefer the beach or the pool?

Get Ready With Me: Winter Formal (hair, makeup, and outfits)

Hello and happy Monday everybody! Saturday evening my school had our Winter Formal which was our second dance of the year. I spent some much needed time with my girls and had so much fun dancing despite the fact that most of the music sounded like it was from 2009. Regardless, we took so many pictures and had a ton of fun. About a week ago I posted a Get Ready With Me for a girls night out and I had so much fun writing about it so today I decided to do another one but Winter Formal edition. I’ll be showing you how I did my hair, makeup, what I wore, and seven of my friends outfits. As always I will have all the outfit details listed below. Thank you so much for reading, I hope you have a fabulous day. With love, McKenz.

Makeup:

To start off the makeup I applied my Elf Mineral Face Primer all over my face. I then took the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation and applied it with a damp beauty blender. I applied the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder all over my face with a powder brush. I then moved onto my eyes and applied the Urban Decay Primer Potion all over. I took the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branden and applied it all over my lids. I took Bootycall from my Naked Two Palette and applied it all over my lids with a flat shader brush. I took the light brown and maroon matte shades from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and worked them into my crease as a transition shade. I applied the sparkly maroon shadow over top of the matte colors and than took the dark brown matte and worked it into my Outer V and onto my lower lash line. I than took a gold Wet N’ Wild glitter shadow and applied this with my fingers all over my eyelids for a sparkly effect. I than took the gold shadow from the same Too Faced palette and applied it over top. Moving onto my brow bone I took the NYX Shadow Stick in white and applied it all over my brow bone to carve out my eyebrows and make my eyeshadow pop. I than set that with the color Foxy from my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. Moving onto my brows I took a lit bit of Vaseline and applied that all over my brows to shape them and keep them in place all day. I than took the three brown shadows from my Urban Decay Naked Basics 2 Palette and filled in my eyebrows. After wards I applied my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer to my under eyes and set the with the banana power from my Anastasia Contour Kit. I than took the NYX HD Studio Powder and applied this all over my face to prevent flash backs when taking pictures. I than contoured and highlighted with my Anastasia Contour Kit and the Covergirl Single Shadow in French Vanilla. After my face was finished I moved back to my eyes and applied my three favorite mascaras: Maybelline Great Lash, Too Faced Better Than Sex, and Maybelline  The Falsies Big Eyes. Lastly I took my Buxom Lip Pencil and filled in my lips and topped it off with the NYX Hypershine Lipgloss. Here’s how the makeup turned out:IMG_9310IMG_9311

Hair:

After I got out of the shower I blew my hair dry with a roller brush and my Revlon blow dryer. I than straightened my hair with my CHI flatiron and parted it to the side. When I got to the dance I threw it up into a pony tail so that it wouldn’t get in my way.

Outfit:

Although it was pretty cold outside on Saturday I was really happy that I had on a tank dress, it was so hot once we started dancing. This dance is on the more casual side so my outfit was perfect. Outfit Details: dress- Forever 21, watch- Kate Spade, necklace- Forever 21, heels- Steve Madden purchased from Nordstrom Rack.

Outfit details from the group: (TOP TO BOTTOM)

Kate: dress- Lulus, heels- DSW, bracelet- Tiffany

Don’t worry though, this week there will be a full week of posts and outfits. 🙂 Thank you so much for reading, I hope you have a great week!. With love, McKenz.

3.14.16- Jeanie and I sported casual clothes for out first day of Spirit Week. Today was Pajama Day so I went casual in a Vineyard Vines tee, leggings, and Converse!

3.15.16- Tonight I spent a lot of time reading my Bible and it felt much needed. I’m still in the midst of reading Psalms and I just started reading Proverbs as well and I am so in love with it. God is good my friends, don’t ever forget it.

3.16.16- I was so happy that it was warm enough out to eat in the courtyard today. i enjoyed a huge helping of strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries and it put me in such a good mood.

3.17.16- Today was Emma’s birthday so I made sure to get a quick picture with her at lunch. I’m so thankful for our friendship and our long talks about God. I’m wearing my denim skirt as today was Throwback Thursday. It’s from Target and my tee is from H&M.

Makeup Regrets

With a makeup collection the size of mine it’s inevitable to come across a few products that aren’t your favorite. Today I am here to share with you some makeup products that I’ve purchased and didn’t love/ weren’t worth the money. Before I begin I want to make sure everybody knows that I love all these brands and have favorite products from all these companies as well. These reviews are just based off my own personal experiences with them. 🙂 Wishing you endless happy days. With love, McKenz.

IMG_9002.JPG

Stila Brighten & Correct Concealer- I bought this concealer on clearance from Nordstrom Rack and although I do love the consistency of this concealer it’s rather orange and leaves an odd looking ring around the area I apply it to.

IMG_9003.JPG

NYX Glam Shadow in Moonrock- I love NYX products especially their jumbo eye pencils but for some reason this single eyeshadow just does not work for me. I found the color to be unflattering on my blue eyes and the formula to be quite patchy. Try the Covergirl single shadows if you’re looking for a good quality shadow and are on a budget.

IMG_9006.JPG

Covergirl Outlast Lipcolor- I bought this lip stain so I could wear it throughout cheer competitions. Although it does everything it claims and has great pigmentation it is so drying on the lips so I highly recommend using Vaseline before. I tend to reach for my Essence Lipsticks that work just as well.IMG_9007.JPG

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush- When this product came out I was obsessed with it, as I’ve become more experienced with makeup I realized that there isn’t really any convenient way to apply this blush, not to mention it doesn’t blend the best. Check out the ELF Blush and Bronzer Duo if you’re looking for a blush that is pigmented, is easily bendable, and is long wearing

IMG_9005.JPG.

Benefit Posie Tint- When I first heard about Posie Tint I thought it was the coolest thing. It’s basically a liquid blush that can also be used as a lip stain. However, this product does not blend at all and look quire patchy when applied on to the cheeks. I do love this product on the lips but for the price, you can find products just as good at the drugstore!IMG_9004.JPG

Covergirl Eye Enhancers in Country Woods– Some of my favorite drugstore eyeshadows are from Covergirl but for some reason this specific eyeshadow quad had almost no pigmentation and was quite chalky. Check out any of the other shades though, they are awesome!

Transitioning into Spring

Good morning everyone. I know I’m not the only one who lives in a state with weather that’s forty degrees one day and seventy five the next day. I’ve never really liked Spring for that reason but if you’re anything like me than this post is perfect for you. Today I am here to show you my favorite clothing pieces and beauty tips to help ease into Spring. I hope you all have enjoyed my last two posts, if you missed them click here and here. Thank you so much for 400 Instagram followers and the endless love and support. Wishing you the happiest of days. With love, McKenz.

One of my favorite things to do as we move into the warmer months is switch up my purse. I tend to reach for my darker colored bags during Winter so when it started to warm up here I started reaching for my gold cross body from Gap, just look how cute that tassel on the side is.

I also love switching up my perfume. I almost always have on Vanilla from bath and Body Works but when the sun is shining I love Sunkissed from Victorias Secret Pink. It smells like the beach in a bottle and brings a smile to my face just by looking at it.

I can’t be the only one that struggles with picking out shoes. It feels like boot weather when you leave the house and sandal season when you come home. I opt for my lace up flats from Old Navy because they show skin without being too much. I also love these knock off Jack Rogers from Amazon because they go with everything.

I often paint my nails a nude or berry color throughout the Winter months but when it comes to the Spring I like to reach for the bright colored polishes in my collection. Bubblegum pink and white are two of my favorites along with coral which you can almost always find on my toes. My two favorite brands for an even, flawless finish are Sally Hansen Hard As Nails and Essie.

My Urban Decay Naked Three Palette is perfect for this time of year. It’s full of rose gold eyeshadows that look gorgeous on the eyes. If you don’t want to break the bank check out the Covergirl TruNaked Palettes. If you’re unsure read this review that has my full thoughts and swatches of this palette.

Start swapping out your vampy lip colors for a bright pink or pop of color. My favorite lippies in the spring are the Essence Lipstick in Natural Beauty, the Urban Decay Lipstain, and the Lipilicious Lip-gloss in Cotton Candy.

Another makeup favorite that I start reaching for in the warmer months is blush because it adds a natural looking flush to your cheeks and a healthy glow. I love this four color Blush Palette from Elf.

Lastly I like to start adding color into my jewelry stack. I picked this watch up from Kohls about a year ago and still adore it. I love stacking my Alex and Anis and pairing them with a few pink jeweled bracelets from DSW for subtle, fun pops of color.

Finding Yourself

The Best Days With You

I can’t seem to put my thoughts into words but the overwhelming amount of happiness you guys bring me is enough to make me sit here and try.  The happiest days I’ve spent are with you. Can’t even begin to thank you all for the smiles you bring me even when you’re not with me. You guys make my life feel full. I tried to capture the essence of these moments together, but it’ll never be the same.

2:00 PM- Hiking up the Mountain to see the view. Not sure our little adventure would have been as fun if it wasn’t for the porta-potties, rainy trip down, Jeanie and I taking fake pics with Tyler, and not being able to find the car. Shoutout to you GB for capturing these moments of us all together, wouldn’t want these days to be any other way.

4:30 PM- By far my favorite picture of the day is the one of me and Garrett on the left. I can feel how genuine my smile was just by looking at that picture. Btw thanks for matching with me Madison, you’ll always rock my world. Sorry Colby, you didn’t make the cut in our squad basketball pic. You’ll get ’em next time.

8:00 PM- Dinner time in the Morgan Household consists of frozen Eggo Waffles and three different prayers before eating  (courtsey of Jeanie, Cedric, and myself.). So happy Tyler joined us at nine because everything’s funnier when he’s around. Wouldn’t be a normal day without an eyebrow picture so Tyler and Madison joined in. Thanks for checking my blog Instagram with me Dustin. And don’t worry GB we missed you and wished you could’ve joined us tonight. We never did catch the final score of the basketball game we were watching but that’s okay because our day together went down in history, not the game.

Laughing so hard your stomach aches. Spitting out jokes so fast your breath starts to shorten. Tearing up because the width of your smile doesn’t seem to lessen. If I could bottle up these feelings to keep them forever I would, but I guess that’s what memories are for. I’ve always said ‘life’s too short to be anything but happy’ and somehow you all have showed me what this means in its entirety. You all have given me so much to be thankful for, so much to love, and so may reasons to be happy. I feel like I’m making the memories I’ll think of as I’m driving home from a stressful day at work with my kids in the back seats rambling about their days as I smile off in the distance thinking of the times I once wished would last forever, and hoping you all are doing well. I don’t know what the future holds, but I hope you guys never leave it. With a whole lot of love, McKenz.
