Upgrade Your Outfit

Fashion has no rules. It’s okay to not like what the girl next to you is wearing but I’m sure she picked that outfit out because she liked it and felt comfortable and confident in it. I can’t help but laugh a little when someone asks me why I’m not wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants, or why I think the shoes I’m wearing are cute. Well, I hate to break it to you, but I picked out my outfit because I liked it, crazy right?! It takes time to find your style, to find what  jeans fit you best, and to find what makes you feel confident in yourself. Within the last year I’ve learned to dress for me. And only me. Today I am showing you how to upgrade your outfits while using inexpensive, basic pieces you probably already have in your closet; and how to dress them up to make you look costly, well pout together, and nothing less than adorable!

Below are four tips I tend to reach for when I’m sitting on the floor Sunday night, lost in my closet and lacking outfit inspo for the upcoming week.

Tip #1:  Add a jacket. I used to underestimate jackets but I eventually realized that they can completely pull an outfit together. My two favorite jackets are are army green and denim. These two are always on repeat in my closet and add an extra layer to even out the bulkiness your shoes may carry. (ex. riding boots or over the knee boots)

Tip #2: Add a scarf. Scarfs are such an easy and inexpensive way to take your outfit to the next level. there are so many different shapes, sizes, and styles that there is bound to be one for you. These are my go to for when I’m feeling chilly or want to add some style to a plain tee.

Tip #3: Add jewelry. Throw on a few bracelets and a watch or consider layering a few dainty necklaces. Jewelry can do more than you think.

Tip #4: Add a sweater. When wearing a flannel or even a simple polo, I love adding a sweater to layer up. It’s an easy way to incooperate texture and color at the same time.

Tip #5: Add socks. You’d be surprised what a pair of matching socks can do to your look. If you don’t believe me, just try it.
