Styling My Twin Sister for a Week

As many of you know, I have a twin sister, Madison. Obviously we are not identical but some weeks she too wants to dress nicely. However, Madison often comes to me with a closet full of cute clothes saying she is unsure of what pieces pair together well. So this week I took advantage of her asking and decided that she would be in front of the camera rather than behind it for a change. Madison typically dresses very preppy. She loves Vineyard Vines and prefers to keep things pretty simple in terms of dressing. In knowing this, I came up with five outfits for her to wear this ‘week’. Keep reading to check them out!

Styling My Twin Sister for a WeekOutfit #1- This outfit is actually from Madison’s DC trip a few days back when I styled her. It was the epitome of a spring day so I had her wear light layers. Starting with a classic white tee, then a gingham button up, and on top of that a Vineyard Vines shep shirt. This made her outfit appropriate for all the temperatures the day may have had!

Outfit Details- tee: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, button up: Vineyard Vines, shep shirt: Vineyard Vines, shoes: Converse, watch: Fossil, bracelet: KJP, rings: Pandora

Styling My Twin Sister for a Week

Outfit #2- Off the shoulder tops are super trendy right now so when I remembered Madison had this one in her closet from back to school season I immediately suggested she pair it with some classic skinny jeans and Converse.

Outfit Details- top: TJ Maxx, jeans: Hollister, shoes: Converse, bracelet: KJP, watch: Fossil

Styling My Twin Sister for a WeekOutfit #3-  I chose to style Madison up for the rainy weather as well. Her Hunters are navy so they paired perfectly with the classic navy whale Vineyard Vines shirt and because it was chillier, I had her pop on her red and navy Vineyard Vines vest over top.

Outfit Details–  vest: Vineyard Vines, shirt: Vineyard Vines, jeans: Hollister, boots: Hunter, watch: Fossil

Styling My Twin Sister for a Week

Outfit #4- I chose this outfit because it’s been quite some time since this simple cold shoulder top of Madison’s was worn. It paired super well with her pair of snake-skin sandals and her daily jewelry.

Outfit Details- shirt: Charlotte Russe, jeans: Hollister, sandals: Target, watch: Fossil

Styling My Twin Sister for a WeekOutfit #5- Madison is a huge fan of the loose peplum style tank tops and with the warmer weather creeping up on us I decided to pair this one from American Eagle with a pair of white Jacks and a white cardigan.

Outfit Details- cardigan: Gap, tank top: American Eagle, jeans: Gap, bralette: Urban Outfiters, shoes: Pierre Dumas

Overall I am fairly pleased with the outfits that I picked for this week of styling Madison. However, I felt that styling her in the colder months was much easier because I was able to mix and match a variety of pieces and overall she had more clothing to work with. Hopefully before the next week of styling Madison I will have more options to choose from and outfits will come more naturally.

Pinterest Outfit Recreations

I am obsessed with Pinterest and that is no secret. It is an awesome way to connect with other bloggers, gain inspiration, and keep all your favorite pictures in one place. All of these reasons being why last year I began to recreate a few of the pictures I had saved on my Pinterest account every couple of months. These posts challenge me to really look in my closet and get creative with my style and wardrobe. I totally recommend doing this if you are ever stuck in a clothing rut (like myself lately) or are interested in trying out some newer trends!

* Keep in mind that these outfit recreations are not meant to be exact matches and may be minorly restyled in order to fit my personal style.*

If I’m being honest, the weather where I live has not reached 100% tee shirt weather yet. Therefore, three quarter length tees are the perfect option for this time of year. I’m throwing on my super trendy and comfortable black block heels from Target and a neck scarf to tie the look together.

Top: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, shoes: Target, scarf: Michael’s

A classic white tee and your favorite jeans are the perfect thing to reach for when you’re questioning what to wear. I’m popping on a light cardigan and a few dainty necklaces to finish off the look.

Tee: Old Navy, jeans: Gap, sandals: Target, cardigan: Kohl’s, necklaces: Charming Charlies and Kendra Scott

Light layers are so essential for this time of year. Chilly weather in the morning and warmer temps in the afternoon calls for a classic white tee with a trusty denim jacket over top. I threw on these lace-up flats for a pop of color and the perfect in between season shoe vibe.

Jeans: Gap, jean jacket: Kohl’s, tee: Ann Taylor, flats: Glick’s, purse: Target

If you have a Pinterest that you would like me to follow, be sure to leave your username below. I hope this gave you all some sort of inspiration! I had so much with this post and will definitely be recreating more Pinterest outfits in the future. Be sure to leave any questions, comments, or requests you may have below. Wishing you a fabulous day! With love, McKenz

April Showers: A Rainy Day Lookbook

Unfortunately the infamous saying ‘April showers bring May flowers’ holds true for the state that I live in, leaving us with humid showers and muggy temperatures throughout the days of April. And quite honestly those are the days that I struggle to find the perfect outfit to wear the most. If you have trouble choosing what to wear on a rainy day, don’t sweat it, I’ve gotcha covered. Below are four outfit ideas styled for this time of year.

A neck scarf paired with light hues is the perfect way to keep your outfit feeling springy. Try opting for rain booties they are an ideal option if you’re not up for wearing clunky rain boots all day.

neck scarf: Michael’s, tee: TJ Maxx, jeans: American Eagle, rain booties: Michael Kors/
TJ Maxx, watch: Kohls, purse: Target

Don’t be afraid to show your legs even if the rain is falling down. Skirts pair perfectly with Hunter’s during the muggy temperatures that rainy days bring. I went for a preppier look and paired this J Crew skirt with a flannel and pearls.

flannel: Old Navy, sweater: Gap, skirt: thrifted/J Crew, rain boots: Hunter, necklace: Forever 21, bracelets: Kohls

This is one of my favorite outfits for those days when it rained the night before and is still damp everywhere but not actually raining. Olive green rain booties pair so well with your typical everyday outfit plus vests are perfect if a light bit of outerwear is needed.

vest: thirfted/Target, jeans: American Eagle, rain booties: Old Navy, tank: TJ Maxx, bracelets: Alex and Ani, purse: Gap

Spring weather is the epitome of unpredictable weather. Where I live the rain can either mean two things: super muggy or chilly temps that make you want to snuggle up. This outfit is perfect for those colder rainy days. An oversized sweater with a colored pair of rain boots is my go to in this scenario.

sweater: Kohls, jeans: Hollister, socks: Kohls, rain boots: Hunter, choker: BellaDesignsByBree

What are you all wearing to keep dry this month? Let me know in the comments along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Stay dry folks! With love, McKenz.

Spring Choker Haul + Outfit Idea ft. BellaDesignsByBree

Chokers were the quintessential accessory of the 90s and as many other pieces from the age, have quickly found their way back onto the runways and into the collections of every major designer. I myself will admit to having jumped on this bandwagon quite some time ago and do not plan on letting up any time soon.

Here’s why:  The kinds of styles are endless; the classic pearl, double wrap, velvet, etc. the list could go on forever and ensures the perfect style for every type of girl. They look good with almost anything. Every season, every outfit… it is almost guaranteed that some type of choker will pair well with your outfit. And lastly, they are inexpensive. Most sell for under $20 leaving the on the less expensive side of my jewelery collection.

Today I am sharing with you a haul of my most recently added chokers that have made their way into my growing collection. All of these chokers can be purchased from the BellaDesignsByBree Etsy shop with 15% off your purchase when using the code ‘mckenz15’.

Here is one of my favorite ways to style a choker- paired with an off the shoulder shirt. This style top naturally draws attention to the neck and with a super cute coordinating necklace you are destined to look put together and trendy all the while. My top is from TJ Maxx, jeans are from the Gap Outlet, and my booties are Lucky Brand.

I am seriously so in love with these necklaces as they have been the perfect addition to my wardrobe this spring. I have received tons of compliments and have had so much fun incorporating Bree’s pieces into my everyday outfits.

GRWM Formal- Hair, Makeup, and Outfit

Hi, friends and welcome back to styledbymckenz! As I mentioned in my latest Weekly Wrap Up, this past Saturday was my school’s spring formal. I had such a good time with all of my friends and it felt so good to get all prettied up for a night. At my school, formal is a pretty casual dance in the sense that not too many people go, the girls don’t go out and buy super fancy dresses, and typically nobody goes with a date. Nonetheless we always have a good time. I posted a get ready with me from this dance last year and felt that it was only fitting for me to post one this year as well. Keep reading to see how I did my hair, makeup, and what I wore for the night.

Makeup- I typically like to do my makeup first when getting ready for a dance so that I don’t mess up my hair or anything of that sort. I honestly attempted to take pictures for this post- tutorial style but it was far too much and the steps to this makeup look seemed endless so I decided to just write it out for you all instead.

As far as what I was aiming for when doing my makeup look I pretty much had no idea what I wanted to do with my makeup other than I knew I wanted to wear falsies and a super glossy lip. Here’s what I came up with and how I achieved this look:

GRWM Formal

GRWM Formal
  • To begin the look I started by priming not only my face with the Nivea Men’s Shave Balm but my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion as well. It’s super important to prime if you know you’re going to be moving around a lot and/or sweating a lot.
  • Next, I took the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation in the shade ‘220’ on a damp beauty blender and buffed this into my skin to bring an evenness to my face and match my face to my neck.
  • I then went in with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and set my face to ensure that I did not get oily as the night went on.
  • I then concealed my underlies with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and set that with the shade ‘Banana’ from the Anastasia Contour Kit.
  • Next, I began to skip around a bit by moving to my eyes. I applied the Maybelline Color Tattoo in the shade ‘Barely Branded’ to my lids to act as a base for my shadows.
  • I decided to go for a soft pink eye look that would match my dress. I began by taking the shade ‘Champagne’ and ‘Light Pink’ from the Lorac Pro palette and packed this onto my lids with a flat shader brush. For the crease I took the matte shade called ‘mauve’ on a crease brush and blended this out. For my outer -v and my lower lash line I took the shade ‘BFF’ from the Tartest palette.
  • I then filled in and shaped my brows using the Anastasia Dip Brow in the lightest shade ‘Blonde‘. (note: the lightest shade is still rather dark if you ask me)
  • To carve out my brows I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade ‘Milk’. This step will leave your shadows and brows looking super crisp and clean.
  • I then applied the Elf Natural Lash falsies and blended my real lashes to my fake lashes with the Maybelline Chaotiques Mascara. For my lower lashes I used the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara.
  • Moving back to my face I contoured my temples, nose, and cheek bones with the Lumene Bronzer. I chose to use a bronzer to keep it from looking too harsh.
  • I then highlighted the bridge of my nose, brow bone, inner corner, cupids bow, and high points of my cheeks with the shade ‘Champagne Truffle’ from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I also applied a bit of blush to keep my face from looking flat.
  • For the lips I used the Buxom Full On Lip Cream in the shade ‘White Russian’. I loved how plump and full this made my thin lips look.
  • To finish off the look I used the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray to keep my face looking dewy and prevent my makeup from completely sliding off my face by the end of the night.

Hair- I decided that I wanted my hair to look super big and full for the night so inevitably that left me the option to curl my hair.

I used my USmooth Wave Iron and the Got2BGlued Blasting Freeze Spray to create this Carrie Bradshaw inspired hair look. I loved the way it looked with my velvet dress and choker- all the 90’s vibes baby!

Outfit- Like I mentioned earlier, this dance is pretty casual in terms of what we wear. My mom picked up this pink velvet shift dress from Nordstrom Rack on clearance. I wore some Steve Madden heels that I previously wore to a dance and a black choker that I already had. I chose not to wear any other jewelry because honestly I just find it annoying while I’m dancing. And my nails and toes are both painted the color ‘Ruby Do’ from Sally Hansen.

Below are a few pictures of me and my gals before the dance.

Well that’s a wrap for today’s Get Ready With Me! What did you all think?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Thank you all so much for stopping by; I hope you enjoyed. Sending you all my love. With love, McKenz.

Pre-Spring Fashion: Outfits + Trends

One of the most exciting parts of Spring is seeing all the styles from February’s  Fashion Week slowly making their way into wearable, everyday clothing. Walking into your favorite clothing store and seeing all the light colors, floral prints, and open toed shoes is the best feeling after being stuck in clunky winter wear for the last few months.

The first trend spotted all over during New York Fashion Week that has slowly found its way into stores is denim as always, and in many new forms. Seen as chokers, raw hems, skirts, two toned jeans, and jackets I am certain that denim will be all the rage for yet another season in a row.  In addition, you can’t forget to pull out the white jeans; they are the best for this time of year. Spotted on the streets lately have been neck scarves. They seem like an inevitable wardrobe option as we slowly transition into warmer weather these next few weeks. Plus with the endless color options and pattens everyone is sure to find one they love. Velvet was everyone’s one true love this past season and seems to be here to stay for spring, especially in the color blush! It is the trendiest color for the upcoming season. Along with funky sleeves and cutouts, pleets were spotted on everything from dresses to tanks. Lastly, the footwear. I have been seeing lace ups everywhere along with sneakers in every color and in the most creative styles! I am almost certain that Target’s spring shoes line will be steeling my money this season.

Here’s my take on these pre-spring trends-

Well what did you all think of these outfits?! Spring officially starts in three days, woohoo; I am so sick of winter! Unfortunately, us East coast peeps have been stuck with the most miserable weather the last week with freezing cold temps and alllll the snow so these outfit’s aren’t exactly as ideal for me as they would’ve been in the sixty-five degree weather we were having two weeks ago. However, I have come to the conclusion that it’s time to start putting together some ideas for the warmer temps (hopefully) headed our ways, which is what lead me to today’s post.

These are my absolute favorite posts to write so I really hope you all enjoyed! Let me know what trends you’ve been eyeing lately along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing lots of warm weather upon you all. With love, McKenz

Winter to Spring Transition (Outfits + Tips)

Boy oh boy am I bummed that the weatherman is calling for a half a foot of snow tonight… all I want is warm weather so I can start wearing some spring pieces and begin packing away my boots! (Is that too much to ask?!) In the meantime, I have been dreaming of warmer weather and putting together a few spring outfits plus coming up with a handful of tips that will help you easily transition your winter wardrobe to spring.

Outfit Details- sweater: Banana Republic, statement necklace: Francesca’s, jeans: Hollister, shoes: Palm Beach Sandals, bracelets: Alex and Ani

I know for a lot of people right now it is much too cold to neglect their sweaters all together which is why my first tip is to start breaking out the color. By adding a colored sweater to your wardrobe you can continue staying warm during those brisk mornings but won’t feel confined in the dark hues that tend to be worn during the colder months.

I also recommend swapping out your boots with some lighter shoes like flats or even sandals. I tend to switch over to sandals once it gets to be about  65 degrees.

Outfit Details- tee: Aeropostale, cardigan: Hollister/TJ Maxx, skirt: thrifted/Target, shoes: Forever 21

I am also well aware that the transition from jeans to shorts can be super awkward so I tend to ease my way to showing some more leg by opting for dresses and skirts for a while. This way, when I’m finally ready to start wearing shorts once it begins to get even warmer it doesn’t feel like such a harsh transition.

Don’t pack away your cardigans, they are seriously perfect for the spring time. I tend to pair them over dresses or over a cute springy tank. This way I am incorporating some warm weather pieces while not completely freezing my booty off.

Outfit Details- blouse: Loft, jeans: Gap, flats: Glicks, bracelets: Alex and Ani

My last tip is to start wearing lighter denim if you can help it. I feel as though it just adds a touch of lightness to a look. White jeans scream spring and look good with almost anything- don’t be afraid of them!

I hope you all enjoyed today’s post. How do you start transitioning from winter clothing to spring?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you all the happiest day. With love, McKenz.

Winter Fashion Wrap Up

With Spring’s arrival less than two weeks away, it’s about time to start packing away my chunky sweaters and pulling out my frilly tanks instead. Where I live, this Winter was not brutal by any means in comparison to year’s prior… which was terrible. I am not one to jump up and down for Winter itself but if it’s going to be cold outside I’d rather it be snowing than cloudy and dull 24/7. Which unfortunately, it was this year.

Anyways, with warmer temps (hopefully) on their way I decided what better way to say goodbye to Winter than wrapping it up by sharing with you all my favorite pieces from the season and a few of my favorite outfits I wore this past season?! Before I keep rambling, let’s get on into it.

I typically don’t wear a coat to school because we don’t use lockers at my school and nobody wants to carry one around all day so I tend to opt for sweaters, scarves, and a lightweight jacket to keep ‘warm’ during the Winter.

This year I could not get enough of vests! They are my preferred choice of outerwear because they are not too bulky and pair perfectly with almost anything. My most worn vest was definitely this fur one from Old Navy. I also could not get enough of blanket scarves. I picked up this one from Target a couple of years back and I am still obsessed.

Like I mentioned earlier, sweaters are always a must for me! I wore this fuzzy white cardigan from Hollister/ TJ Maxx literally all the time. I also could not get enough of flannels. They are perfect styled under a sweater, over a sweater, around the waist, I could go on and on because the options are seriously endless.

I received a pair of black over the knee boots from DSW for Christmas and absolutely fell in love. They instantly glam up any outfits so they were always on repeat. I also found myself in booties 90% of the Winter. My favorite ones this season were these blue velvet ones from Old Navy’s Winter collection.

Turtle necks in every form were on repeat for me all season long. Whether it was a sweater or a tee, I without a doubt wore it multiple times.

And last but certainly not least, my beloved denim. In any way, shape, or form, I wore the heck out of it this Winter. I really experimented with this trend. My denim jacket is from Kohls and my favorite pair of jeans are from Gap. Along with these I tried skirts, frayed edges, chokers, and so on. I am beyond excited to be carrying this trend on over to the warmer months as well because I feel so comfortable and confident in my own skin whenever I am wearing denim.

here are a few outfits I put together while trying on the individual pieces

Well, what clothes did you wear this Winter on repeat?! Let me know in the comments below along with any requests you may have for me as we enter the warmer months. I am so excited for what’s to come here on styledbymckenz and cannot thank you all enough for your continuous love and support. I hope you all enjoyed this little Winter clothing montage; wishing you the absolute best. With love, McKenz.

Spring Wishlist

Hey y’all! After a long week of school, I am super happy to be sitting down and writing this post. After Christmas, I told myself I wouldn’t spend any money while shopping until Spring rolled around and as we all know, it is right around the corner; woohoo! I cannot wait to get my hands on a few new pieces for the upcoming season so I decided to put together my wishlist and share it with you all today! fullsizerender-11

I have been dying to go on a really good thrifting trip lately and with the denim craze still in full swing this upcoming season, I am hoping to find a dress as spunky and unique as the denim dress I have featured here. I also am on the lookout for an oversized denim jacket. I currently have a light wash, fitted one but would love to try to find a medium wash, larger one to create an edgier look for some street style outfits I have been looking to recreate.

Oh how I adore the Mark Fisher LTD espadrilles wedges have been all the talk from every fashion blogger on my Instagram freed lately so inevitably the cute ‘dupe’ for these wedges (Steve Madden Jaylen Wedge Sandals) are on my wishlist. They are absolutely beautiful and could easily be transitioned into every season. Plus the Steve Madden pair is nearly $100 cheaper than the Mark Fisher pair!

I also am on the hunt for a light pink velvet choker. I feel like this would be such a good accessory to have to pair with a simple sweater and she sandals for the Spring time!

Along with that, I have been eyeing the gold Mantra band that reads ‘She Believed She Could So She Did’. I have been feeling so motivated to be better and improve my blogging plus  this simple bracelet would look so precious with my everyday stack.

I have been eyeing the Chloe Faye Purse for a few months on Pinterest now and it is absolutely stunning. However, it retails around $1,950.(Talk about a wish list haha) While I was looking on Missguided I found a similar one for only $4o in the most beautiful blush shade, I am obsessed with it!

And lastly, it is now secret I am obsessed with shoes. Especially, sandals. These fringed, colorful pairs have been spotted everywhere and I found the cutest pair from Target. I can’t wait to head on over there and spend my gift card!

Well, what have you all been eyeing for the upcoming Spring season?! Be sure to let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests (please!) you may have for me! Wishing you all the most fabulous Saturday. With love, McKenz.

What’s In My Purse

Purses have been one of my favorite accessories for so long; whenever I leave the house I typically have one attached at my hip. Recently my sweet aunt bought me this black crossbody from TJ Maxx and I am so in love with it. I haven’t used any other bag when going out lately because this one is just too cute. Today I’m going to be sharing with you what’s in my purse at the moment.

IMG_5743.JPG

First things first, I have my wallet. Where I live everyone just carries a Vera Bradley wallet attached to a lanyard, mine is from Vineyard Vines and you can purchase it here. Next, I have a few lip products. I always throw whatever I’m wearing into my purse that day and I hardly ever remember to take them out so they tend to pile up. I also keep my sunglasses in my bag  most of the time. This super cute pair are Steve Madden and from TJ Maxx.

I also carry some gum or a couple of mints in my purse at all times. I also keep a lotion with me because my hands are always dry no matter how much I moisturize. (plus a hair tie just in case). Lastly, I have my phone! I have an iPhone 6 with a white Lifeproof case.

Well, that’s it for today’s short + sweet post. As you can tell I don’t keep much in this purse because it is not too big; I typically will throw in my planner when I am carrying a tote bag around. Anyways, what posts would you all like to see in the future?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Hope you all have the best day! With love, McKenz
