This Is Not Goodbye // The New StyledbyMcKenz

It is with great pride in my heart that I sit here and I announce to you all my new website, styledbymckenz.com. Sixteen months ago I was so thrilled as I hit publish on my very first blog post. I am so happy to say that I was able to feel that same jolt of excitement as I launched my new website this past weekend.

I will no longer be posting on this site, however, this is not goodbye. Please feel free to check out my new site, styledbymckenz.com and leave some love while you’re at it. My new website holds all of my previous sixteen months of content and can be viewed there throughout all the days to come.

Thank you so much for the memories, love, and endless support. I am more than excited to see where my new site takes me and the doors it may open.

Thank you again for everything, I’ll (hopefully) be seeing you around.

With a whole lot of love, McKenz. DSC_2339

Hey friends, and welcome back to styledbymckenz! Please tell me I am not the only one literally in awe that tomorrow will be the first day of April. Seriously, where has the time gone?! However, with the month coming to an end it means it’s time to share with you all what I’ve been loving this month + what’s been going on.

Honestly, this month has been an absolute roller coaster of temperatures and weather. As you can tell some days I was stuck in multiple layers and all the chunky knits and other days I could wear open toed shoes! Although, that’s partially why I had such a hard time choosing my top three favorite outfits this month. (Hence, the reason why I chose five!) I’ve been loving light wash denim, white, and stripes this month… oh and my fake glasses from Amazon.

This month was all about accessorizing as well. I’ve been experimenting with things around my neck a ton whether it be scarves, bandanas, or my new chokers from BellaDesignsByBree. Be sure to follow me on Instagram @styledbymckenz, I am giving away the daisy one today! This month I’ve also been sporting my favorite gold crossboody from Gap and my $6 espadrilles from Forever 21; they are the perfect spring shoe.

IMG_6914.JPGMy makeup favorites this month were by far the Bare Minerals Lipgloss and my Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. This palette has always been one of my favorites as I find that it is so versatile and I can create endless looks with this palette. Other than this I have honestly been feeling super uninspired with my makeup choices and feel that a trip to Ulta is very much in need for the near future.

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

As far as my Bible goes, I just finished reading 1 Corinthians and it was absolutely amazing. On top of that I’ve been reading verses here and there from Psalms. After talking with Gb a lot this month, I have realized that Jesus’s love is absolutley unfailing and that he can heal all wounds no matter how big they may be.

I have slowed down a bit on the Netflix and am only at the beginning of Season 3 on Gilmore Girls but am loving it nonetheless. Right now I am seriously in the mood to watch a fashion inspired movie or TV show like the Carrie Diaries so if you have any suggestions please leave them below! And as far as music goes, I’ve honesty been listening to a ton of country with Madison this month. Something about it just screams home to me.

Let’s talk goals; last month I set a goal to reach 2,000 followers on my Instagram and I am super happy to announce that that goal has been met. I hope to reach 2,200 and begin getting my blog subscriptions up and moving again as I reached a bit of a stand still this month.  Hopefully everything goes as planned + I’m working on a super excited project that I cannot wait to share with you.  I also have been a planning freak this month and have been using my Lily agenda nonstop to plan things out for the blog and for school. Something about my organized mess leaves me feeling a little less anxious.

March Empties

Hey everyone, welcome back to styledbymckenz! In January I shared my first ever empties post of all the products I used up throughout the month and my honest opinion/review on all the products. I got such positive feedback and finished so many products this month that I figured, why not do another one?! Alright, before I start to ramble let’s get on into it.

March Empties

I finished up quite the stash of body products as you can tell. This is probably my fourth set of Warm Vanilla Sugar lotion and perfume. It is my absolute favorite scent because it’s not to perfume-y, I will definitely be repurchasing this set again. I use Bath & Body Works body washes all the time, however I wasn’t in love with this scent ( A Thousnad Wishes) so I probably will not repurchase this one again. I also finished the 3 Minute Miracle hair mask from Aussie. This was my fifth time finishing a bottle and I will most definitely repurchase this again. It is such a life saver for dry, brittle hair!

Product: Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Lotion
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Bath & Body Works A Thousand Wishes Body Wash
Stars: 3.5/5
Repurchase: maybe

Product: Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Fine Fragrance Mist

Product: Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Cream

Repurchase: yes

Product: Aussie 3 Minute Miracle
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

March Empties

I also finished quite a few makeup products this month. First, is the only brush cleaner I have ever used. I find that it works well but nothing about it screams ‘amazing’ to me. I also finished the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara which is my favorite affordable mascara because it lengthens and volumizes at the same time, plus at $5 it cannot be beat. I also finished the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and have already repurchased it. It is the best drugstore concealer because it covers literally everything. Lip products are something I absolutely never finish but this month I finished two; a Stila Lipgloss that is super sticky but was the prettiest color and a Buxom lipstick. I received this as a sample on Black Friday two years ago and used it at least once a week from then on. It is the perfect color and I will be repurchasing this in the full size as soon as possible. I also used the Elf Natural Lash Kit at formal last weekend. I love their lashes but the glue is awfu. I would highly suggest getting a different lash glue when using their lashes.

Product: Daily Makeup Brush Cleaner
Stars: 4.5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Repurchase: yes

Product: Stila Lipglaze

  6. Share one of your favourite blog memories and give 2 of your favourite blog posts and tell us why they’re your favorite.

Brief story on how StyledbyMcKenz came to be- I have told the story of why/how I started my blog time and time again but here it goes once more: Over a year ago I sat down in my mom’s office looking for a way to combine my love for photography, clothing, makeup, and writing. She told me to start a blog. The idea made me nervous but I told her that if we could think of a name I would be willing to start one. A few weeks later my website was designed, a name was picked, and my first blog post ever was published. Just like that my life was flipped upside down and I could not be more grateful for this blog and all the people I have met along the way!

Two Pieces Of Advice- There are two things in specific that I wish someone had told me before starting a blog and making it more than a way to spend my free time. The first being, you are half the recipe to your success. If you want to reach your goals, go out and work towards them. Half of your success depends upon yourself, your passion, and your content. The other half is up to the people who read your blog and are the numbers behind it, which brings me to my next piece of advice. Stop worrying about the number. If your blog is not ‘growing’ the way you want it or you feel like there are so many people doing better than you, take the time to really look at your following. I currently stand at 1,200 WordPress followers and compared to others that number is so minuscule and to others that is so huge. Think of your following as the actual people and faces they are, not the number they make up. You’d be surprised how differently you view your following from then on.

Favorite blog memory- I feel as though I haven’t done anything super out of the ordinary in terms of blogging but nonetheless my favorite blogging memory has to be getting dressed up in my ribbon skirt and lace up heels before stopping on the side of the road with snow on the ground to take my one year anniversary pictures. I had so much joy and pride filled inside, like everything I had worked so hard for had paid off in one way or another.

Two favorite posts and why- Inevitably ‘StyledbyMcKenz Turns One‘ is my all time favorite blog post for reasons stated earlier and in close second would have to be ‘The Power of Makeup‘. I received such positive feedback from this post and felt so comfortable in my own skin, so proud of what I wrote and the message I was sending to other girls of all ages and ethnicities.

Below are nine girls I tag to answer any of the tags mentioned today (Versatile Blogger Award, Liebster Award, Mystery Blogger Award)-

  1. mergingthreads
  2. trip by triplets
  3. marioness
  4. fadedrouge
  5. kaylee marie
  6. beautybyadutchgirl
  7. whowhatfab
  8. amyhedgecook
  9. apocketfulofprep

Alright friends, that’s a wrap for today’s blog post. I hope you all enjoyed and hopefully learned a bit more about me. Be sure to leave me requests for upcoming blog posts you would like to see along with any other comments or questions you may have for me. Sending you all my love. With love, McKenz.

Spring Cleaning

Typically when I think of spring I think of a general cleanliness, a fresh start. It feels almost wrong to me to enter the new season without deep cleaning my room. I know for many people spring cleaning may seem tedious but it doesn’t have to be! Crank some tunes, get some room decor inspiration from Pinterest, and get out the garbage bags because it’s time to get cleaning.

Spring Cleaning

Start off by stripping your bed. Wash your sheets and put on a fresh set and then make your bed. I cannot tell you how much cleaner your room will look once you simply make your bed! It’s not that hard and it will instantly make your day feel more productive.

Honesty, the only thing that makes my room seem messy is if there are clothes lying around or my closet is overflowing. If you’re looking to really analyze your wardrobe and full clean it out I recommend dumping its entire contents on the floor. This way you have no choice but to sort through it all. I do this with both my closet AND dresser.

Make three piles: Keep, Donate, and Trash. Go through every. single. piece. Until there is nothing left. If you haven’t worn it in the last six months, chances are it would be better off in the arms of a new owner. If you really want to keep it, put it on a different colored hanger so you are reminded to wear that piece before anything else. If it’s damaged to the point where it can’t be fixed or is just flat-out grubby, throw it in the trash pile.

Organize your shoes however you desire but get them in order, untie the laces if you were too lazy to take them off the right way the last time you wore them and put each shoe with its rightful other.

I tend to throw all of my socks in a bin to keep them in one designated spot and hang my scarves on a holder to keep the massive mound of scarves off of my closet floor. By hanging things like my shoes and scarves on the dooor I can maxamize the space of my closet. Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

If you have a desk or bookshelf, rearrange it! It can open up the space of your room or in some cases, any change of scenery is good for the mind.  I decorate my shelves with hats, old magazines, sunglasses, shoes, anything that screams me. I like to switch them up as the seasons change so I don’t get bored with them.

My room is by no means the biggest which is why I always clean it from season to season. My closet is tiny but I keep it packed and organized that way I am constantly sifting through different clothes and can turly see what I have to wear. If you find yourself staring at your closet each morning thinking ‘omg I have nothing to wear’ chances are you just need to reorganize it and see whats inside.

If you have any tips for spring cleaning or how to keep a tiny room tidy be sure to leave a comment below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. I am always happy to chat. Wishing you all the best day. With love, McKenz.

Loose Curls Hair Tutorial

Hey y’all, and welcome back to styledbymckenz. Aside from Get Ready With Me’s, I have never done a post related to hair but as I was brainstorming post ideas a few weeks back this one kept coming back to mind. I decided that since this is my blog after all and I wanted to do this post, why not?! So here I am sharing with you how I typically style my hair 6/7 days a week. Enjoy!

To begin I am brushing my hair with a comb and sectioning off the top half of it by tying it into a bun with my favorite scrunchie. This will keep it out of my face and allow the bottom half of my head to be as evenly curled as the top half! I am then taking the Infusium 23 Heat Protect and being sure to spray my strands to keep them from being completely damaged from the heat.

I am then using the 1 1/2” Infinity Pro by Conair curling iron. I typically use this iron as if it were a wand because I find it’s such easier to use this way and I like the appearance of my curls much more. After I have curled both sections of my head, reversing directions on random strands, I am taking the Got2BGlued Extreme Hold Hairspray and spraying my curls to keep them from falling throughout the day. If you’ve never tried this hairspray, you need to! It’s amazing and will hold any hairstyle. Plus, it keeps my hair looking voluminous and big which is how I like it best!

This is the finished product! It typically takes me 5-8 minutes to curl my whole head because of how fine my hair is! It’s a blessing and a curse don’t be fooled ladies…lol. This is my favorite way to wear my hair because after a couple of days the curls will naturally fall out but my hair will still have volume which it typically lacks. Plus, it leaves my hair looking much healthier than if I were to straighten it which is always a bonus!

before and after

Well that is it for today’s post. I know it was rather different for me to share but I wanted to upload it anyways; I hope you all enjoyed! How do you all typically wear your hair?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you the best day. With love, McKenz.

What’s In My Purse

Purses have been one of my favorite accessories for so long; whenever I leave the house I typically have one attached at my hip. Recently my sweet aunt bought me this black crossbody from TJ Maxx and I am so in love with it. I haven’t used any other bag when going out lately because this one is just too cute. Today I’m going to be sharing with you what’s in my purse at the moment.

IMG_5743.JPG

First things first, I have my wallet. Where I live everyone just carries a Vera Bradley wallet attached to a lanyard, mine is from Vineyard Vines and you can purchase it here. Next, I have a few lip products. I always throw whatever I’m wearing into my purse that day and I hardly ever remember to take them out so they tend to pile up. I also keep my sunglasses in my bag  most of the time. This super cute pair are Steve Madden and from TJ Maxx.

I also carry some gum or a couple of mints in my purse at all times. I also keep a lotion with me because my hands are always dry no matter how much I moisturize. (plus a hair tie just in case). Lastly, I have my phone! I have an iPhone 6 with a white Lifeproof case.

Well, that’s it for today’s short + sweet post. As you can tell I don’t keep much in this purse because it is not too big; I typically will throw in my planner when I am carrying a tote bag around. Anyways, what posts would you all like to see in the future?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Hope you all have the best day! With love, McKenz

February Favorites

Hello everyone, and welcome back to styledbymckenz! I hope your day is off to a fabulous start; the end of February is here already (feels like just yesterday was Christmas) which means it’s time to share with you all what I have been loving this month + what’s been going on!

Not much has changed this month as far as my taste in clothing. I am still obsessed with all things street style but haven’t been wearing things that necessarily reflect this. Where I live we had about ten days where the weather ranged from mid-sixties to upper seventies that was so amazing. I was able to pull out my overalls for a day and a few other spring pieces I am so happy about it and am trying to incorporate more color into my day-to-day outfits. Oh, and my white Vans. I seriously wear them everywhere all the time.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetI have been loving natural makeup this month so my Buxom Lip-glosses and the Lumene Bronzer have been staples for my everyday makeup routine. I have finished the cycle of eyeshadow palettes for my Makeup Of The Week’s and have been eyeing a Morphe palette and the Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette to get next as it has been quite a while since I last purchased a new palette.

Processed with VSCO with a4 presetI figured I would show you my favorite page in my Bible from this past month. I doodled this page from the verses Isaiah 42 and am so in love with how it turned out. I’ve been spending a lot more time with Jesus recently and praying for peace of mind and in every aspect of my life. I am in the midst of reading Acts as of right now!

I am currently watching Gilmore Girls and am in the middle of Season 1 and am liking it so far but hope that it picks up a bit because it’s kind of slow right now! As far as music goes, I have been obsessed with Spotify and all the different playlist’s they have made up. I love how there is one for bad days, study time, relaxation, shower singing, and so on.

I am slowly but surely accomplishing what I talked about last month as far as goals go. I am really putting forth effort into my Instagram and making this blog exactly what I want it to be while still staying true to myself. In March I hope to hit 2,000 Instagram followers and accept that life is only as good as we chose to make it.

Processed with VSCO with hb2 presetWell, what have you ben loving this month?! Let me know in the comments below, along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have for me! I am always happy to chat. Wishing you the best today and always. With love, McKenz.

February Empties

Hey everyone, welcome back to styledbymckenz! Last month I shared my first ever empties post of all the products I used up throughout the month and my honest opinion/review on all the products I got such positive feedback and finished so many products this month that I figured, why not do another one?! Alright, before I start to ramble let’s get on into it.

img_5688This month I finished up all of my holiday scents from Bath&Body Works that were sitting around my bathroom. I usually love all of their products around the holidays but didn’t love the scent of the lotion and felt that Vanilla Bean Noel was too strong of a scent in the wallflower form. I loved their soap and body wash as per usual.

Product: Vanilla Bean Noel Shower Gel
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Tis the Season Hand Soap
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte Body Lotion
Stars: 2/5
Repurchase: no

Product: Vanilla Bean Noel Wallflower
Stars: 3/5
Repurchase: Would purchase the original Vanilla instead.

IMG_5689.JPG

It’s very rare that I ever finish makeup products it seems like since I am constantly rotating the products I use. However, this month was an exception as I finished several face products and cleared out a good chunk of my stash. Almost all of these were repurchases and I was hardly disappointed by any of them. Although, the Elf primer seemed to not do as good of a job when I used it everyday consecutively so I switched it up regularly with other primers. And I do not feel the Maybelline Age Rewind deserves the amount of hype it gets, although it is very good.

Product: Rimmel Stay Matte Powder
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes, already have

Product: Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes, already have

Product: Elf Mineralized Face Primer
Stars: 3.5/5
Repurchase: Maybe

Product: NYX HD Concealer
Stars: 4.5/5
Repurchase: yes, *lighter consistency than Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

Product: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer
Stars: 4.5/5
Repurchase: yes

IMG_5687.JPGLastly,  have a couple random products. I do not typically have a deodorant preference so it doesn’t really matter to me what I use. The Dove Dry Shampoo was fairly good for the price, it is much cheaper than the Batiste dry shampoo. My only complaint would be the strong smell, however I have found that every dry shampoo has a smell that I am not too fond of.

Product: Degree Motor Sense Deodorant
Stars: 5/5
Repurchase: yes

Product: Dove Volume Dry Shampoo
Stars: 4/5
Repurchase: yes

Well, that’s a wrap for my February empties post! I hope you all enjoyed taking a peek at my trash, lol. I love empties posts, so leave me a link to one of yours below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you all a very happy Monday. With love, McKenz

Blog Award Catch Up

Hey, loves! Over the last few weeks the number of nominations I have received for blogging awards has been piling up. As I was sitting down and sketching a general skeleton of a schedule for each month at the beginning of the year, I promised myself to do at least one blog award catch up/life update each month. Because sometimes it’s okay to sit down and just chat and not have every little thing planned out. So, that’s simply what I am going to be doing today. Get cozy, this is going to be a long one.

Blog Award #1- Thank you so much everlastingnikita for nominating me and Okoto Enigma for starting such a brilliant tag!img_5169.png

  1. Display the award logo on your blog.
  2. List the Rules.
  3. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  5. Tell your readers three things about yourself.
  6. Answer five questions from the nominee.
  7. Nominate anywhere from ten to twenty bloggers.
  8. Notify the bloggers by leaving a comment on their blog.
  9. Ask your nominees any five questions of your choice, including one weird or funny question.
  10. Share the link to your best post.

Three things about me- (school edition)

  1. I am apart of the school’s newspaper and I love it. Being able to write stories about fashion and events taking place at my own high school is so much fun and has really opened up my eyes to all sides of my school.
  2. This will be my second year helping out with my school’s drama department by doing makeup! I love being able to hang with a completely different side of my school.
  3. I am in my first AP class (AP Government) this year and I have learned an astonishing amount since the beginning of the class.

Here are the questions I was asked-

  1. If you had the choice of knowing when and how you would meet the love of your life, would you want to know? No, I don’t think I would want to know. I think that you must experience heartbreak to know what love is therefore I would not want to rush into nowing.
  2. What is your biggest flaw you have? I am seriously so anxious it’s not funny. I wish I could help myself from worrying about things that I have no control over.
  3. If you had to choose where you would spend your life, where would It be? I’m not sure. Out of college I would love to live in New York City for all the amazing fashion and opportunities; however, I would love to live somewhere with a warmer climate. I hope to live somewhere one day that screams home and is as comfortable to me as where I am now.
  4. Let’s pretend you’re in an abandoned island, what is 5 things you wish you would have with you? My sister for sure, water, a pair of sneakers, a camera, and something to for self-protection.
  5. How are you doing today? Today I am doing well. I am slowly but surely checking as many things as possible off of my to-do list for today.

Here are my questions to you-

  1. Where do you picture yourself in ten years?
  2. What was the first camera you ever had like?
