Hey everyone, welcome back to styledbymckenz! Last month I shared my first ever empties post of all the products I used up throughout the month and my honest opinion/review on all the products I got such positive feedback and finished so many products this month that I figured, why not do another one?! Alright, before I start to ramble let’s get on into it.

img_5688This month I finished up all of my holiday scents from Bath&Body Works that were sitting around my bathroom. I usually love all of their products around the holidays but didn’t love the scent of the lotion and felt that Vanilla Bean Noel was too strong of a scent in the wallflower form. I loved their soap and body wash as per usual.

It’s very rare that I ever finish makeup products it seems like since I am constantly rotating the products I use. However, this month was an exception as I finished several face products and cleared out a good chunk of my stash. Almost all of these were repurchases and I was hardly disappointed by any of them. Although, the Elf primer seemed to not do as good of a job when I used it everyday consecutively so I switched it up regularly with other primers. And I do not feel the Maybelline Age Rewind deserves the amount of hype it gets, although it is very good.

IMG_5687.JPGLastly,  have a couple random products. I do not typically have a deodorant preference so it doesn’t really matter to me what I use. The Dove Dry Shampoo was fairly good for the price, it is much cheaper than the Batiste dry shampoo. My only complaint would be the strong smell, however I have found that every dry shampoo has a smell that I am not too fond of.

Hello, friends! This week has been nothing short of ah-mazing so I am super excited to be here chatting with you all. First of all, the weather was beautiful. Seventy five in February is enough to make the whole week perfect, if I’m being honest. Secondly, I got outside! It sounds stupid, but getting outside after school and simply leaving the house for a bit before sitting down for another three hours doing homework is such a stress reliever. Third, I got to wear sandals… in February. Did I mention this weather was amazing lol?! Y’all, my heart is just so full and happy as I am writing this and I am so excited for this next season and chapter soon to come. 2.19.17- Madison and I spent our Sunday sipping some Shamrock Shakes and playing basketball at the park after saying goodbye to our momma for the week.

2.20.17- My Monday off was spent at Dunkin with Jean before walking nearly four miles around town and playing basketball with Madison yet again. Blogging, watching Gilmore Girls, and reading a bit more of Acts before heading to bed.

2.24.17- I am so convinced that absolutely nothing can go wrong when you’re spending the day dressed in overalls. Spending time with Lil at school today and cheering for basketball during their first round of playoffs. Out to dinner with my dad, Colton, and Madison after.

Happy Saturday, y’all! I am back with another Makeup Of The Week and this week I challenged myself to use ONLY drugstore products. Let me tell you… it was not as easy as I intended it to be. This week I tried to get over my fear of blush (success!), learned that I hardly own any drugstore eyeshadows, and that the drugstore does not have the widest range of eyebrow products! Despite this, I was able to make it through the week creating mostly super natural, fresh-faced looks with products from the drugstore.

Also if you are looking for a good drugstore option as far as eyeshadow goes, I highly recommend the Wet N Wild ‘Comfort Zone’ eyeshadow palette. It is about $6 from the drugstore and swatches/wears beautifully. I do not wear much drugstore eyeshadow, but when I do it’s almost always Wet N Wild.

Hey, ladies! It’s about time I upload the fashion forecast for this month! If you’re new around here or missed my January Fashion Forecast, these posts are a place for me to share my favorite trends and pieces that I have been seeing everywhere from magazines to Pinterest to the people of our very own streets. As I have stated before, I adore trendy fashion that is different from the normal these days so here I am sharing with you what I have been loving lately.

First things first, band tees. I have been seeing these everywhere, paired with fishnets, over the knee boots, or an oversized denim jacket. I have always been a huge fan of oversized tee and will hopefully be jumping on this bandwagon sooner rather than later!

Fishnets are back ladies and gents… for real. I have seen these paired under dresses, under jeans, or even in sock form peeking out of your favorite kicks at the moment. I cannot wait to pick up a pair myself because I am seriously obsessed with this grunge edgy trend right now. Plus the girls from FIT (one of my dream fashion schools) that I follow on Instagram have been styling these nonstop and they look ah-mazing to say the least.

Everything that goes around comes around… especially in the fashion industry these days. Scrunches had their resurrection a few seasons ago but lately I have been seeing ones in velvet, fun Spring patterns, or just worn on the wrist for a super fun look. They remind me of sunshine, so maybe that’s why I love them so much.

And last but not least for this month, fake glasses! I have bene loving simple wired frames that are not needed for actual vision problems. They are so cute and something about them just really draws my attention. So obsessed!

Right when I started to think that spring weather would never show a glimpse of itself, Mother Nature decided to give us weather in the high sixties and low seventies! We’re going on almost a week in a row now with the most amazing sunny, warm weather and I can not say I am the tiniest bit disappointed by it.

The other day I had a girls day with my mom and wore this super cute outfit that was perfect for the fabulous Spring weather we have been having so I decided that I would share it with you all.

I paired this simple off the shoulder top with some distressed ankle lengthen jeans that I bought on clearance from Old Navy a while back. I threw on my espadrilles fromForever 21 because they scream Spring to me and added my Kendra Scott for an extra touch. I am also wearing a few random Alex and Ani’s and my Boho Betty bracelet.

New York Fashion Week In Review

New York Fashion Week is the most talked about event in the fashion industry. Between the styles, designers, and attenders; the amount of stuff to cover is absolutely endless. I am so jealous of all the bloggers that got to attend such a luxurious event. Unfortunately, I’m sitting on the sidelines wrapping up everything I’ve seen/heard and sharing with you my thoughts and takes on the high fashions that lined the runway over the last week or so.

First things first- the designers. Around 100 designers were selected to be in New York Fashion Week this spring to share their Fall 2017 lines. If I’m being honest, some of the designers I’ve never even heard of as per usual and others are designers whose work I frequently look at and actually enjoy keeping up with. Project Runway, Tommy Hilfiger, and J Crew were some of my favorites to keep up with this time around.

Fashion Week was last week and had various shows all day along from around 9:00 am- 6:00 pm. The next NYFW will be held in the Fall and it is currently Hong Kong Fashion Week where designers like Gypsy Sport, Adam Selman, and Coach will be featured.

After looking through and analyzing literally thousands of pictures from the runways and the streets  from this past week I have quickly realized what trends for the upcoming seasons I myself will be seen in, and which I wouldn’t dare wear out. I am so beyond excited to see how stores revamp these styles and what celebs + bloggers will be pulling them right off the runway.

Now let’s dig into the trends. Keep in mind this was the Fall 2017 show.

  • Pom poms, tassels, and other fun accents were seen everywhere on clothing. They add a funky flare, that looks DIYed in my eyes. It’s growing on me, if I’m being honest. I like how different it is, and on shoes I think it will be such a statement.
  • Politics is another thing that was taken to the runways this time around. Women advertising their strength and their rights was extremely popular and seen on the bodies of many models from Prabal Gurung.
  • Talk about velvet everywhere. Dresses, tee’s, pants, shoes… you name it and the runways had it all. I adore velvet and am so happy that it will not be leaving us quite yet.
  • Fringe was spotted everywhere as well. Mostly on dresses and skirts. It seems flattering, sexy, and daring.I can’t wait to see what stores do with this trend.
  • Oversized everything has taken the hearts of us all for the last few seasons and will continue to be seen everywhere this coming season. Jackets and pants seem to be the latest category to be seeing it.
  • Let’s talk about sleeves. Every type of pattern, style, or flare you could imagine a sleeve to have this weeks runway brought. I am loving all of the ruffles and such and have already started to see stores like Forever 21 and Target featuring this trend in their Spring lines.
  • And saving one of my favorites for last.. embroidery. I’m not sure why I am loving this one so much but it’s so creative and different that it has completely stolen my heart. I can not wait to see more embroidery on shoes, jackets, and dresses in the near future!!

I obviously am no professional, nor did I attend NYFW, however, based on the countless pictures, articles, and videos I have seen/read/and watched I thought it would be fun to put together my thoughts on this seasons Fashion Week. I love this week because designers are adventurous and create pieces that somehow work their way into more realistic styles that are then later put into our local stores for your average girls like myself to wear. Creativity is absolutely endless in the eyes of designers which is what makes this week so great in my eyes.

As I was sitting down and sketching a general skeleton of a schedule for each month at the beginning of the year, I promised myself to do at least one blog award catch up/life update each month. Because sometimes it’s okay to sit down and just chat and not have every little thing planned out. So, that’s simply what I am going to be doing today. Get cozy, this is going to be a long one.

Three things about me- (school edition)

  1. I am apart of the school’s newspaper and I love it. Being able to write stories about fashion and events taking place at my own high school is so much fun and has really opened up my eyes to all sides of my school.
  2. This will be my second year helping out with my school’s drama department by doing makeup! I love being able to hang with a completely different side of my school.
  3. I am in my first AP class (AP Government) this year and I have learned an astonishing amount since the beginning of the class.

Here are the questions I was asked-

  1. If you had the choice of knowing when and how you would meet the love of your life, would you want to know? No, I don’t think I would want to know. I think that you must experience heartbreak to know what love is therefore I would not want to rush into nowing.
  2. What is your biggest flaw you have? I am seriously so anxious it’s not funny. I wish I could help myself from worrying about things that I have no control over.
  3. If you had to choose where you would spend your life, where would It be? I’m not sure. Out of college I would love to live in New York City for all the amazing fashion and opportunities; however, I would love to live somewhere with a warmer climate. I hope to live somewhere one day that screams home and is as comfortable to me as where I am now.
  4. Let’s pretend you’re in an abandoned island, what is 5 things you wish you would have with you? My sister for sure, water, a pair of sneakers, a camera, and something to for self-protection.
  5. How are you doing today? Today I am doing well. I am slowly but surely checking as many things as possible off of my to-do list for today.

Seven things about me-(blogging edition)

  1. This month is my fourteenth month blogging! (ah that’s so crazy!)
  2. My mom helped design my ‘Styledbymckenz’ logo for my site launch in January 2016 and I still love it till this day.
  3. My sister and my mom take the majority of my blog photos and I love them for it.
  4. Sundays are my favorite day of the week. I always wake up around 8 and clean my room, pick out outfits, write, blog, and take pictures for the week ahead. It’s my most productive day of the week.
  5. Growing my Instagram account is something I am working really hard to do. Be sure to give me a follow here. 🙂
  6. My blogging schedule has almost always been Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday. With an additional post Saturday if I have enough ideas for the month.
  7. I have a list of blogging goals sitting above my desk to keep me motivated. My two main goals are to switch to a self hosted site and reach 2,000 blog followers by the end of the year.

Seven things about me- (random edition)

  1. I love to read and wish I had more time to do it. If you have any book suggestions leave them below please! 🙂
  2. I have over fifty pairs of shoes. In my defense, my foot hasn’t really grown in a few years so I don’t typically have to get rid of shoes.
  3. I really want a pair of fake glasses.
  4. White is probably my favorite color to wear.
  5. I eat popcorn almost everyday.
  6. In the Summer I try to walk five miles a day when I’m not traveling or in a different state.
  7. My goal is to make it to ten states this year.

Seven things about me- (life after high school edition)

  1. The thought of not living down the hall from my sister absolutely breaks my heart even though she’s a pain in my butt half the time.
  2. I hope to study something in the fashion industry in college.
  3. I am currently looking at schools to visit within the coming months! If you have any recommendations please leave them below!!
  4. Going to school in a big city sounds like a dream come true.
  5. I love the idea of being in a sorority but most likely would never join one.
  6. I love the idea of knowing almost nobody in college because it gives you a complete fresh start.
  7. I hope to live within driving distance of Madison once we are both in the real world!

I am obsessed with Pinterest and that is no secret. It’s an awesome way to connect with other bloggers, gain some inspiration, and keep all your favorite pictures in one place which is why last year I began to recreate a few of the pictures I had saved on my Pinterest account every few months. These posts challenge me to really look in my closet and get creative with my style and wardrobe. I totally recommend doing this if you are ever stuck in a clothing rut (like myself lately) or are interested in trying out some newer trends!

This was the first outfit I chose to recreate simply because I have a few denim button ups that I never seem to reach for anymore. I figured that this outfit is perfect for this time of year anyways! I still need a sweater because temperatures are around the forties but it has a spring vibe in my opinion.

I thought this outfit was too cute. I loved the black and white paired with the chunky belt. I fished this one out of my mom’s closet and threw on a black choker as well. I didn’t have shoes that looked too similar so I’m wearing black booties in place. I never would have thought of this outfit combo if it weren’t for Pinterest which is exactly why I love doing these types of posts!

I’ve also been looking for more ways to style my leather jacket with light wash denim so this outfit was right up my ally. A simple white tee and some classic black booties tied this look together perfectly.
