December Favorites

Oh December, possibly the fastest month yet but one of the best none the less. I am so pleased with how this month went, as I’m sure some of you are too. Although they may be stressful, the holidays are such a fun time of year. Spending time with loved ones and just constantly smiling ear to ear and eating wayyy too much. How could anyone not love them?! I plan on writing a 2016 favorites post too but figured I would end December with one as well.

As far as makeup goes, I really haven’t been wearing as much as I usually do.  Have been loving my Anastasia Contour Kit again. For a while I really just was into bronzer that was shimmery and more warm but I am slowly getting back into the matte shades from the kit. I have also been really loving matte eyeshadow which is strange because I used to never dare wearing mattes because I felt they did nothing and looked like chalk. I quickly realized that with a small line of liquid liner and a matte crease shade you can look super glam and make your lash band look super intense!

I have also been curling my hair like crazy this month. If I’m going for the Shirley Temple curls I tend to use my 1/2” wan from ConAir and if I want big voluminous curls I use my 2” ConAir Curling Iron. I can usually wear these curls for three days too which is so nice and saves me so much time in the mornings.

Here are a few of my favorite outfits from the month. I have been loving booties, turtle necks, and workout wear this month, as you can tell. If you want to see my outfits of the week be sure to read my Weekly Wrap Up’s every Sunday. I’ve also been loving chokers. They transform any outfit instantly!

I have a few specific songs I have been loving that I will list below.

  • Dancing On My Own by Calum Scott
  • Jealous by Labrinth
  • Woodland by the Paper Kites
  • Down in the Valley by The Head and the Heart

I am now on Season 3 of 90210 and like most of you told me, it finally did start to get good. Right now I am rooting for Liam and Annie!

Well that’s it for this month’s favorites. If you wrote a monthly favorites too be sure to leave the link below so I can check it out! If not, what have you been enjoying this month? As always if you have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below! Thank you all so much for sticking around. Wishing you the best day! With love, McKenz.

Natural Makeup Look for the Everyday Girl

It’s not often that I wear makeup and keep it super simple but lately I have really felt like keeping things minimal. Mostly because it’s winter break and I like to give my skin more of a break compared too usual. Anyways, here’s a super simple yet stunning makeup look.

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetTo begin I am moisturizing my face with the Cetaphil Face Moisturizer. This step is super important now that we are knee deep in Winter. Keep your skin hydrated by moisturizing and drinking lots of water. I am then priming my face with the Elf Mineralized Face Primer (only $3). This is sure to keep your makeup from sliding around and lasting even longer. I am then going ahead and priming my lids while I am at to keep my shadows from creasing and reaching their full pigmentation.

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetNow that my face is fully ready for makeup I am taking the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation on a damp beauty blender and buffing it into my skin making sure to blend down my neck. I am then going in with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and setting my foundation. This will fully enhance the foundation and keep it matte all day. As far as concealer goes, I am just taking a bit of the NYX HD Concealer and applying this under my eyes and then setting that with the shade ‘Banana’ from my Anastasia Contour Kit. I don’t want too harsh of a contour, just a light sun kissed bronze yet still the slimming qualities contouring provides. So I am taking the Lumene Bronzer and bronzing my cheek bones and temples to warm the look up and then contouring my nose. As you can tell face makeup can completely transform you face. Not that anyone’s face needs ‘transforming’.

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetFor the eyes I simply did two things. I applied a few coats of the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara to my upper and lower lashes to create an intense effect that really opened up my eyes. I am then filling and shaping my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow in the lightest shade ‘light blonde’.

And last but not least I am applying the NYX Lingerie Lipstick in ‘Corset’. Their lip products are amazing all around and I would definitely recommend their Lingerie line.

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetWell, what did you think? Personally, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this more natural makeup tutorial and I hope you all enjoyed it too! As always be sure to leave me any questions, comments, or requests you may have below, I am always happy to have a chat! Have a fabulous day, friends. With love, McKenz.

Pinterest Outfit Recreations (Holiday Edition)

I can not believe tomorrow is Christmas Eve! I can hardly wait. Today I wanted to share some more Pinterest outfit recreations. I adore recreating outfits that I have saved because it allows me to search my closet and really be creative with the stuff I already own. I tried to pick a few outfits for this post that are more appropriate for the holiday season in case you are still in need of some outfit inspiration for the next few says. Alright before I keep talking too much, let’s get on into the outfits!

By the way, these outfits aren’t as similar as some of my other Pinterest outfit recreations! I apologize, but I wanted to really be creative and step out of my comfort zone a bit!

I chose this outfit to recreate because I am obsessed with velvet currently! This dress is a few years old and paired so perfectly with my favorite lace up heels.

Outfit Details- dress: Aeropostale, necklaces: Loft and Charming Charlies, heels: DSW

This is one of my favorite outfits that I have pinned recently but it was the hardest to recreate. I haven’t worn my leather jacket lately so I pulled the out for the look and paired it with this cozy grey turtle neck.

Outfit Details- jacket: Target, sweater: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, booties: TJ Maxx, purse: Target, choker: DIY

This little black dress outfit is perfect for this time of year if you show on a jacket and a pop of color somewhere. I figured a maroon bubble necklace and a maroon lippie will completely tie this look together.

Outfit Details- dress: Old Navy, necklace: Old Navy, flats: Old Navy

Well that’s it for today’s post. I will be back soon for a Weekly Wrap Up sometime this weekend. Until then, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy holidays! I am so very thankful for you all and hope you have the best time off. Sending all my love your way. With love, McKenz.

The Entertainer Blogger Award

Hello everyone! I am so thankful to have been tagged in yet another blogging award from one of my fellow WordPress friends, Azra from simpleserenity. She has been putting in so much time and effort into her beauty blog right now and I’m sure it would make her day if you checked her out. Click here to be forwarded to her blog. For now, let’s get on into the Entertainer Blogger Award questions!0393b90d163f349022b49d8c39909b7ci.jpg

Rules:

Write a post including the award picture
Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring, and most importantly entertaining!
Nominees will answer the same questions as the ones below
Thank the person who nominated you and leave a link to their blog
Answer the questions down below

Questions:

What do you hope to gain from blogging?

From blogging I hope to gain better communication skills and some lifelong friends. Along the way I hope to continue creating something that I am proud of and find a piece of me I wasn’t sure was even there to begin with.

What genre of film entertains you the most?

I personally am a chick flick kind of girl. Anything by Nicholas Sparks is probably one of my favorites!

Do you consider yourself a writer, and what inspires you to write?

I suppose you could call me a writer; although I’m clearly no professional. Following my dreams inspires me to write, stay organized, and chase after what I want no matter how much effort it takes.

Why did you choose your particular WordPress username?

It took my mom and I quite some time to pick out the perfect name for my blog but chose styledbymckenz because it seems classy, and as if no matter how old I got it would still suit me.

What is your favourite book, and why does it speak to you?

My favorite book is definitely the last book of the Hunger Games series. I can not explain why this book is my favorite other than the meaning of it is so much deeper than the average person may read into. The epilogue is absolutely breath-taking.

What is your favourite song, and why does it speak to you?

This is so hard because I’m always changing up what I listen to. ‘She Will Be Loved’ by Maroon 5 will forever be one of my favorites though!

What is your favourite photograph, and why does it speak to you ?

Ooo this is an interesting question! I am not sure I have a favorite photograph, simply because I feel every one has its own story, therefore it’s hard to choose just one.

Who I Tag:

I could pick out just twelve ladies to answer these questions but instead I’m deciding to leave this open-ended. My reason being, all the gals I follow are inspiring, pretty, and entertaining. It would be unfair to choose just one. That being said, if you consider yourself my blogging friend I certainly hope you will answer these questions and tag me in your answer because I love learning more about the girls I spend almost every minute of my free time writing to!

Well that is it for today! I hope you ladies enjoyed and are having the best day.. can’t wait to read more of y’alls Blogmas posts. As always if you have any questions, comments, or requests be sure to leave them in the comments below! Talk soon. With love, McKenz.

Holiday Makeup Tutorial- A Collab With Sophiemaie

Good morning, ladies! It is very rare that I ever blog on a Tuesday but I made a special exception when my dear blogging friend Sophie from sophiemaie asked me if I was up for posting a collab. Of course my answer was yes, as I am delighted to be working together on such  fun post. We love the holidays and of course all the festive makeup looks that come with the month. We are both going to be sharing holiday makeup looks so you are sure to get some inso for your next holiday party!

IMG_2936.JPG

Although my skin is by no means bad, as you can tell, it is quite pale compared to the rest of my body and rather uneven. Therefore, I will be applying face makeup today to make the overall appearance of my look put together, and fresh.

To begin I am applying the Nivea Men’s Shave Balm all over my face to prepare my skin for the following products being applied. This product is sure to keep your makeup on for hours on end and smells so good!

I am then applying the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation all over my face using a beauty blender. As you can tell this step alone completely transforms my face now that my whole skin tone is evened out. Afterwards, I am buffing the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder onto my face to keep my face matte all evening. This powder is the best and is under $5 at the drugstore.

Then, to cover my under eye circles I am using the NYX HD Concealer (perfect dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Skin) . To set my under eyes I am applying the banana powder from my Anastasia Contour Kit. This will keep the concealer from creasing and brighten up that general area.

I am then contouring the hollows of my cheeks, my temples, and the sides of my nose to slim down the overall shape of my face and define my features a bit more. I am then highlighting the bridge of my nose and my cheekbones. I used the Anastasia Contour Kit for both of these steps- this palette is such a good investment!

In order to prep my lids for eyeshadow and ensure that my shadows don’t crease and keep a flawless appearance all night I am applying the Urban Decay Primer potion and the Maybelline Color Tattoo in “Barely Branded”.

I am then using the colors ‘snakebite’ and ‘bootycall’ from the Naked 2 Palette along with a few matte brown shadows from my Naked Basics 2 palette and creating a monotone look that will not draw too much attention to the eyes.

I am then filling and shaping my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow. After, I am going in with the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara and fully coating my lashes. These two steps alone will instantly transform the face and make your eyes look much more awake!

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetI am then applying one of my favorite red lipsticks from Essence. Any red lipstick will do and will make this look so festive and perfect or this time of year.

Here are a few pictures from the final look. I hope you all enjoyed this simple, festive makeup look and were able to take some inspiration from this. Don’t forget to check out Sophie’s blog post here; she’s doing Blogmas on her page so you are sure to find some cute holiday themed posts! As always, if you have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below. Have a great day, ladies! With love, McKenz

Holiday Outfit Ideas

Happy holidays, ladies! I can’t believe that Christmas is less than a week away. I decided to put together a few outfits to share with you all in case you too are having trouble deciding on the perfect outfit for an upcoming holiday party, outing, or dinner with the family!

This first outfit is the dressiest of them all. I paired this silk black shift dress with a red plaid choker that’s perfect for this time of year. It looks too cute with my red TOM wedges and pulls the outfit together so nicely. A bright red lip will make this look even more festive!

Outfit Details- dress: H&M, choker: Forever 21, heels: TOM, watch: Kohls

Some pattern pants are always a good way to go for the holidays, they are perfect for the guys too. Check out Bonobos menswear here. I paired this creme tank with my polka-dotted pixie pants from Old Navy. They are perfect for church. I tied the look together with my lace up heels and a bold red lip.

Outfit Details- tank: TJ Maxx, pants: Old Navy, heels: DSW, watch: Kohls

For the more casual occasion I have paired my maroon cowel neck sweater with some flared jeans for a fancier feel and my maroon booties. Throw on a cute cross body purse and you are good to go for the evening.

Outfit Details- sweater: TJ Maxx, jeans: Gap, booties: Old Navy, purse: Gap, watch: Kohls
