GRWM Formal- Hair, Makeup, and Outfit

Hi, friends and welcome back to styledbymckenz! As I mentioned in my latest Weekly Wrap Up, this past Saturday was my school’s spring formal. I had such a good time with all of my friends and it felt so good to get all prettied up for a night. At my school, formal is a pretty casual dance in the sense that not too many people go, the girls don’t go out and buy super fancy dresses, and typically nobody goes with a date. Nonetheless we always have a good time. I posted a get ready with me from this dance last year and felt that it was only fitting for me to post one this year as well. Keep reading to see how I did my hair, makeup, and what I wore for the night.

Makeup- I typically like to do my makeup first when getting ready for a dance so that I don’t mess up my hair or anything of that sort. I honestly attempted to take pictures for this post- tutorial style but it was far too much and the steps to this makeup look seemed endless so I decided to just write it out for you all instead.

As far as what I was aiming for when doing my makeup look I pretty much had no idea what I wanted to do with my makeup other than I knew I wanted to wear falsies and a super glossy lip. Here’s what I came up with and how I achieved this look:

GRWM Formal
  • To begin the look I started by priming not only my face with the Nivea Men’s Shave Balm but my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion as well. It’s super important to prime if you know you’re going to be moving around a lot and/or sweating a lot.
  • Next, I took the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation in the shade ‘220’ on a damp beauty blender and buffed this into my skin to bring an evenness to my face and match my face to my neck.
  • I then went in with the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and set my face to ensure that I did not get oily as the night went on.
  • I then concealed my underlies with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and set that with the shade ‘Banana’ from the Anastasia Contour Kit.
  • Next, I began to skip around a bit by moving to my eyes. I applied the Maybelline Color Tattoo in the shade ‘Barely Branded’ to my lids to act as a base for my shadows.
  • I decided to go for a soft pink eye look that would match my dress. I began by taking the shade ‘Champagne’ and ‘Light Pink’ from the Lorac Pro palette and packed this onto my lids with a flat shader brush. For the crease I took the matte shade called ‘mauve’ on a crease brush and blended this out. For my outer -v and my lower lash line I took the shade ‘BFF’ from the Tartest palette.
  • I then filled in and shaped my brows using the Anastasia Dip Brow in the lightest shade ‘Blonde‘. (note: the lightest shade is still rather dark if you ask me)
  • To carve out my brows I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in the shade ‘Milk’. This step will leave your shadows and brows looking super crisp and clean.
  • I then applied the Elf Natural Lash falsies and blended my real lashes to my fake lashes with the Maybelline Chaotiques Mascara. For my lower lashes I used the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara.
  • Moving back to my face I contoured my temples, nose, and cheek bones with the Lumene Bronzer. I chose to use a bronzer to keep it from looking too harsh.
  • I then highlighted the bridge of my nose, brow bone, inner corner, cupids bow, and high points of my cheeks with the shade ‘Champagne Truffle’ from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I also applied a bit of blush to keep my face from looking flat.
  • For the lips I used the Buxom Full On Lip Cream in the shade ‘White Russian’. I loved how plump and full this made my thin lips look.
  • To finish off the look I used the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray to keep my face looking dewy and prevent my makeup from completely sliding off my face by the end of the night.

Hair- I decided that I wanted my hair to look super big and full for the night so inevitably that left me the option to curl my hair.

I used my USmooth Wave Iron and the Got2BGlued Blasting Freeze Spray to create this Carrie Bradshaw inspired hair look. I loved the way it looked with my velvet dress and choker- all the 90’s vibes baby!

Outfit- Like I mentioned earlier, this dance is pretty casual in terms of what we wear. My mom picked up this pink velvet shift dress from Nordstrom Rack on clearance. I wore some Steve Madden heels that I previously wore to a dance and a black choker that I already had. I chose not to wear any other jewelry because honestly I just find it annoying while I’m dancing. And my nails and toes are both painted the color ‘Ruby Do’ from Sally Hansen.

Below are a few pictures of me and my gals before the dance.

Well that’s a wrap for today’s Get Ready With Me! What did you all think?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Thank you all so much for stopping by; I hope you enjoyed. Sending you all my love. With love, McKenz.

Valentine’s Day GRWM (Hair, Makeup, and Outfit Idea)

Woo only one more day until Valentine’s Day! Truth be told, I have never been a huge fan of the holiday but once I began blogging I realized how many ideas a holiday can generate. Therefore, here I am blogging about a hair, makeup, and outfit idea for Valentine’s Day. I hope you all have the best day and enjoy this post. Let’s jump right in!

Hair- I’m sure we’re all well aware that my hair is a hot, frizzy mess when it’s not styled so to begin the taming of my hair I am going to be brushing it out and then spraying the Infusium23 Heat Tamer onto my hair. This will keep the heat of my curling iron from completely damaging my ends. For today’s hair I am going to be using the Conair 1/2′ curling wand and curling my hair in opposite directions and varying the amount of hair I pull each time. This will keep the hair different and add tons of volume to my hair. Lastly I am going to be spraying my locks thoroughly with the Got 2 Be Glued Freeze Hold Hairspray. This will completely hold my curls and allow them to be worn for more than one day at a time.

Makeup- Alright y’all, moving onto the makeup I beginning by priming my lids and face as always using my beloved Nivea Men’s Shave Balm Primer and the Urban Decay Primer Potion. These products will keep my makeup from sliding throughout the day and ensure that nothing creases.

Next I am taking the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation on a damp beauty blender and buffing this into my skin for an even coverage. I am then taking the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and mattefying my face to keep from getting oily.

Next I am going to be taking the Maybelline Color Tattoo in the shade ‘Barely Brnaded’ and applying this all over my lids. This product is going to act as a base and keep my shadows in place for hours on end. For this look I am going to be using shadows from my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. First I am applying the shade ‘Buzz’ all over my lids.

Then I am going to be taking the shade ‘Limit’ on a fluffy crease brush and applying this into my crease. I am then taking a bit of ‘Nooner’ on a tampered crease brush and applying this to my outer V to create more depth and definition to the eyes. I am then popping a bit of ‘Strange’ in my inner corner.

For the brows I am going to be filling and shaping them using the Anastasia Dip Brow and highlighting my brow bone with the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Milk’.

I am then applying a coat of the Covergirl Flamed Up Mascara. For the lips today I will be using a Stila Lip Glaze.

I am contouring my cheek bones, temples, and nose using the bronzer from the Anastasia Contour Kit and highlighting the tips of my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, cupids bow, and brow bone using the shade ‘Vanilla’ from the Anastasia Contour Kit.

I am in love with this look for the month of February!

Outfit- I am all about the fur and over the knee boots lately. For this look I am pairing a fur vest from Old Navy over a simple black sweater from Old Navy. My jeans are from Hollister and the boots I am wearing are from DSW. To add a subtle pop of pink to the outfit I am wearing a statement necklace from Charming Charlies and a bar necklace from Forever 21.

Well, what do you think of this look?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me! I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Sending you all my love! With love, McKenz.

GRWM School Day- Hair, Makeup, and Outfit

Hey, ladies! I hope your day is off to a good start. I am always being asked how I get ready for a typical school day so today I decided to share with you a hair, makeup, and outfit idea for you and hopefully you can gain some insight as to how I get ready!

Makeup- Before I begin I wanted to say that no, I do not spray tan. My face is naturally much paler than the rest of my body, lol. Also, my makeup changes on a day-to-day basis as you can tell from previous blog posts and my Makeup Of The Weeks. Today I chose a rather simple makeup look to share with you all.

before and after

I am starting by priming my face with the Nivea Men’s Shave Balm to ensure that my makeup lasts all day. I am then taking the Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation on a damp beauty blender and buffing this into my skin to even out my skin tone.

I am then taking the Garniar Under-eye Roller Concealer and applying this in a triangle shape to conceal my under-eye circles. I am then taking the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and setting my face makeup to keep my face from getting oily throughout the day.

I am keeping the eye makeup to a bare minimum today by filling and shaping my brows with the Anastasia Dip Brow in the shade ‘Blonde’. I am then curling my lashes and applying the Maybelline Chaotiques Mascara while fully coating my lashes to lengthen and volumize them.

I prefer to contour and highlight after I have applied my eye makeup so I know how dark I can make the contour. I am using the Lumene Bronzer and the highlighter ‘Vanilla’ from the Anastasia Contour Kit to highlight the high points of my cheeks, the bridge of my nose, and my cupids bow.

I have recently been loving blush so I am taking the peach shade from the Elf Blush Quad and applying this to my cheeks. I find that helps add some liveliness to my face. I am then taking one of my favorite lipsticks from Buxom in the shade ‘Brooklynn’ and applying this to my lips.

That’s it for the makeup look, its super simple. I typically go for this look when I am in a time crunch or want to sleep in a few minutes, as opposed to the days when I do a ‘Makeup Of The Week’ type of makeup look.

IMG_4375.JPGHair- Before I get into the actual hair look itself, I thought I’d let you know my typical hair routine. I usually will wash and condition my hair on Sunday night using the uSmooth Cleanse and Conditioning products and heat style it the following morning. I will wear that hair for a couple of days and then repeat the same routine midway through the week. I have found that this routine helps my dry hair build up natural oils and keeps me from using heat on my hair everyday. The uSmooth products are perfect for my color treated hair and help keep my ends nice and hydrated!

To begin I am spraying the USmooth Texturizing Spray  on my clean hair. I find that this helps make my curls look more relaxed and beachy. I am then using the USmooth Wave Iron to create some natural looking waves in my hair. I seriously love this product because it feels like I’m not using heat on my hair, almost like this is just my natural hair but better. Plus it made my hair so voluminous which is typically something my hair lacks. I am then making sure my locks stay this fabulous throughout the day by using the USmooth Flex Medium Hairspray.

Outfit- My outfits change from day-to-day as you know from my Weekly Wrap Up’s. My usual outfits typically include a sweater and booties. This outfit is simple, chic, and comfortable, making it perfect for an everyday school look.

Outfit Details- sweater: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, booties: TJ Maxx, necklace: Old Navy, watch: Kohls

Well, that is it for today’s get ready with me. I hope you all enjoyed. What’s your typical school routine? Let me know in the comments below along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. I would like to give a special thank you to USmooth for providing me with the hair products talked about in today’s post. GRWM-Thanksgiving (hair, makeup, outfit)

Hello friends, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and that you found some good deals today for Black Friday. My family kept things pretty casual this year but I still wanted to get all dolled up for dinner. Today I’ll be sharing with you all the details on my hair, makeup, and outfit.

As far as makeup goes, I knew I wanted to wear some burgundy toned shadows to match my sweater and have a bright inner corner. I started off the look by priming my face with the Nivea Men’s Shave Balm and my lids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion. I then used the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation and set that with my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder. I used the Lumene Bronzer to contour my temples, cheek bones, and nose. I highlighted using a shimmery champagne shadow from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar. For my lids I started out with the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Barely Branded’ and popped this shade into my inner corner while I was at it. I used various shadows from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar to create this deep burgundy, and bright lid look. I filled in and shaped my brows using the Anastasia Dip Brow and then used the Maybelline Great Lash Mascara to thickly coat my lashes. For lipstick I used the Buxom Full On Lipstick in ‘Brooklynn’.

I chose to tightly curl my hair using a ConAir ‘1/2 inch curling wand. I then shook it out and sprayed it with the Got2BGlued Hairspray. It ended up leaving my hair super big and voluminous which is what I was hoping for!!

For my outfit I wore this fuzzy, maroon cape from TJ Maxx that I picked up a few weeks back. I’m wearing some medium-wash skinny jeans from Hollister, maroon socks from Target, and my brown riding boots which are from Target as well. Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

How did you all spend your Thanksgiving? Let me know in the comments, I would love to hear! Also if you have any questions, comments, or requests be sure to leave them below and I will be happy to listen. I am so thankful for all of the friends I have met over the last year and the people who are reading this right now. Thank YOU for helping partake in my success; I appreciate all the love. I hope you all have a fabulous rest of your weekend. Sending all my happiness and luck (for some super good Black Friday deals, duh!!!) your way! With love, McKenz.

Homecoming GRWM (hair, makeup, outfit)

Hello everyone, as you probably know from my last couple blog posts, Saturday was my school’s homecoming! It felt so good to get all dolled u with my friends and have a night out. I wanted to do a Get Ready With Me because they’re some of my favorite posts to write and I figured you all might be interested. Before I talk you all’s ears off, let’s get on into it..

Hair-  I got my hair cut into a lob midway through last week and am so in love with it. For the dance I curled my hair and then shook out the curls as much as  possible for a very full and voluminous effect. I curled my hair with a 1/2 inch Conair Wand and kept my curls in place by using the Got2bGlued Hairspray. img_0595

Makeup- For my makeup I knew I wanted to use a bit of Naked 3 to match my dress. I aimed for a super sparkly lid and a brown matte crease with a matching liquid lipstick. I lived up to those hopes most;y, and came up with the following makeup look that I am so in love with:

face primer: Nivea Men’s Shave Balm

GRWM: October Game Day (hair, makeup, game day pics)

October calls for lots of football, the overwhelming feeling of home and tons of pictures. There’s nothing I love more than a Friday night in my small town which is why today I wanted to do another Get Ready With Me for game days! My routine change quite a bit once October rolls around because I like to break out the pink and we switch up our bows! Anyways, without further ado, let’s get on into it

Hair: I haven’t been poofing my hair much lately because braids are much less time consuming! Today I dutch braided my hair and pulled it back into a high pony. I teased the pony part of my hair with my teasing comb and the best hairspray for long wearing hold- Got 2 Be Glued Hairspray. This month we wear silver bows that have a pink breast cancer symbol on them as well!

Makeup: For my makeup I started off with my Nivea Mens Shave Balm to prime my face and ensure that my makeup stays on all day. For foundation I mix the Loreal Infallible Foundation and the Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation so that I can get  a nice even color and a super matte finish. Afterwards I am setting my face with the NYX HD Powder which is perfect when taking pictures. For contouring and highlighting I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. In October I break out the blush, today I’m using the ELF Blush Quad. For my eyes I’m starting off the Urban Decay Primer Potion to keep my eyeshadow from creasing. I am the taking the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Barely Branded’ and applying this all over my lids. October means I can break out all my pink shades! Naked 3’s shade ‘Dust’ over top of the Wet N Wild Glitter in ‘White’ looks absolutely stunning on the lids. I am then taking ‘limit’ and ‘nooner’ and working these into my crease for a beautiful eyeshadow look. I am then using ‘black heart’ in my outter v. Afterwards I am taking my Anastasia Dip Brow and filling and shaping my brows and highlighting my brow bone with my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in ‘Milk’. I’m then piling on all the mascara, Maybelline Great Lash, Covergirl Flamed Up, and Too Faced Better than Sex. For my lips I either take a pink lipstick or a pinkish nude liquid lippie from NYX.

A peak into my Friday nights:

*I am a sophomore and have been on Varsity since my freshman year.* Thank you all so much for reading and taking part in this side of my life. I am so thankful for all of your love and support. If you have any requests, comments, or questions please leave them below! I hope you all have a fabulous day. With love, McKenz.

GRWM- Game Day (hair, makeup, outfit)

Friday nights in my small town are something indescribable. There is absolutely no amount of words that could express the thrill, excitement, and overwhelming feeling of home that our football games ooze each week. Being a Varsity Cheerleader is a huge part of my life and one of the biggest commitments I’ve ever made. I feel like I don’t talk about cheer too much which is why I thought a Get Ready With Me would be the perfect way to take you all along and show you what my weeks consist of on a normal basis. I really hope you all enjoy, without further ado lets get on into it.

Hair

For our hair we have three options. We can either poof it, french braid it, or leave it in a normal pony tail. We also have the option to curl or straighten the “tail” part of our pony. Most weeks I wear a French braid with a straight, teased pony tail. I usually have one of my teammates braid my hair before pulling it into a high ponytail. I use the Got2BeGlued Hair Wax to keep all of my baby hairs down and in place. Afterwards I put my bow in and then hairspray my braid to keep it in place. I then straighten the remainder of my hair (I usually just touch it up, as it is almost always already straightened). I am then taking sections of my hair and teasing the part closest to my pony tail before spraying it with Got2BeGlued Hairspray. This helps my hair have volume and look higher.

Makeup

For makeup, we are allowed to wear whatever we would like. I have been doing this same makeup look since my first game of freshman year. I start out by priming my face to ensure that my makeup does not budge throughput the game. I am then taking a matte foundation to keep my face from looking shiny throughput the night. I always apply under eye concealer to brighten up that area and set my whole face with an HD Powder to keep my makeup from having flashbacks while taking pictures. I do a pretty heavy contour and highlight for almost all games (not pictured) this way people from afar can still make out the makeup. I always apply a primer and a Maybelline Color Tattoo to my lids to keep my eyeshadow from creasing. I always always always use Naked One. “Virgin” in the inner corner, “Half Baked” and some sort of glitter on the lid, “Naked” and “Buck” in the crease, “Smog” and “dark horse” in the outer v and dragged under the lash line. I make sure to fill in my brows and apply multiple coats of mascara. i almost always stick with a nude lip, this is a NYX Liquid Lipstick. The only time my Friday night makeup varies is in October, I then usually use Naked 3 and wear a pink lip. I will most likely do an updated version in October.

Outfit

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

My school has four uniforms and three bows, so we alternate throughout them as the weeks go on. For shoes I wear Nfinity’s as I feel they are the most comfortable for flying and tumbling. This is a picture of one of them! (yes our mascot is a Hornet lol)

Well that is it for my GRWM Game Day edition. I hope you all enjoyed this little inside look to the cheerleader side of me. In case you didn’t know or are curious I am a sophomore and have been on Varsity since my Freshman year! Are any of you cheerleaders?! If so, let me know below! If you have any questions, comments, or requests be sure to leave them below. Thank you so much for stopping by, I hope you all have had a fabulous Friday or as I prefer, Game Day!!! :,) With love, McKenz.
