Winter to Spring Transition (Outfits + Tips)

Boy oh boy am I bummed that the weatherman is calling for a half a foot of snow tonight… all I want is warm weather so I can start wearing some spring pieces and begin packing away my boots! (Is that too much to ask?!) In the meantime, I have been dreaming of warmer weather and putting together a few spring outfits plus coming up with a handful of tips that will help you easily transition your winter wardrobe to spring.

Outfit Details- sweater: Banana Republic, statement necklace: Francesca’s, jeans: Hollister, shoes: Palm Beach Sandals, bracelets: Alex and Ani

I know for a lot of people right now it is much too cold to neglect their sweaters all together which is why my first tip is to start breaking out the color. By adding a colored sweater to your wardrobe you can continue staying warm during those brisk mornings but won’t feel confined in the dark hues that tend to be worn during the colder months.

I also recommend swapping out your boots with some lighter shoes like flats or even sandals. I tend to switch over to sandals once it gets to be about  65 degrees.

Outfit Details- tee: Aeropostale, cardigan: Hollister/TJ Maxx, skirt: thrifted/Target, shoes: Forever 21

I am also well aware that the transition from jeans to shorts can be super awkward so I tend to ease my way to showing some more leg by opting for dresses and skirts for a while. This way, when I’m finally ready to start wearing shorts once it begins to get even warmer it doesn’t feel like such a harsh transition.

Don’t pack away your cardigans, they are seriously perfect for the spring time. I tend to pair them over dresses or over a cute springy tank. This way I am incorporating some warm weather pieces while not completely freezing my booty off.

Outfit Details- blouse: Loft, jeans: Gap, flats: Glicks, bracelets: Alex and Ani

My last tip is to start wearing lighter denim if you can help it. I feel as though it just adds a touch of lightness to a look. White jeans scream spring and look good with almost anything- don’t be afraid of them!

I hope you all enjoyed today’s post. How do you start transitioning from winter clothing to spring?! Let me know in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you all the happiest day. With love, McKenz.

Winter Fashion Wrap Up

With Spring’s arrival less than two weeks away, it’s about time to start packing away my chunky sweaters and pulling out my frilly tanks instead. Where I live, this Winter was not brutal by any means in comparison to year’s prior… which was terrible. I am not one to jump up and down for Winter itself but if it’s going to be cold outside I’d rather it be snowing than cloudy and dull 24/7. Which unfortunately, it was this year.

Anyways, with warmer temps (hopefully) on their way I decided what better way to say goodbye to Winter than wrapping it up by sharing with you all my favorite pieces from the season and a few of my favorite outfits I wore this past season?! Before I keep rambling, let’s get on into it.

I typically don’t wear a coat to school because we don’t use lockers at my school and nobody wants to carry one around all day so I tend to opt for sweaters, scarves, and a lightweight jacket to keep ‘warm’ during the Winter.

This year I could not get enough of vests! They are my preferred choice of outerwear because they are not too bulky and pair perfectly with almost anything. My most worn vest was definitely this fur one from Old Navy. I also could not get enough of blanket scarves. I picked up this one from Target a couple of years back and I am still obsessed.

Like I mentioned earlier, sweaters are always a must for me! I wore this fuzzy white cardigan from Hollister/ TJ Maxx literally all the time. I also could not get enough of flannels. They are perfect styled under a sweater, over a sweater, around the waist, I could go on and on because the options are seriously endless.

I received a pair of black over the knee boots from DSW for Christmas and absolutely fell in love. They instantly glam up any outfits so they were always on repeat. I also found myself in booties 90% of the Winter. My favorite ones this season were these blue velvet ones from Old Navy’s Winter collection.

Turtle necks in every form were on repeat for me all season long. Whether it was a sweater or a tee, I without a doubt wore it multiple times.

And last but certainly not least, my beloved denim. In any way, shape, or form, I wore the heck out of it this Winter. I really experimented with this trend. My denim jacket is from Kohls and my favorite pair of jeans are from Gap. Along with these I tried skirts, frayed edges, chokers, and so on. I am beyond excited to be carrying this trend on over to the warmer months as well because I feel so comfortable and confident in my own skin whenever I am wearing denim.

here are a few outfits I put together while trying on the individual pieces

Well, what clothes did you wear this Winter on repeat?! Let me know in the comments below along with any requests you may have for me as we enter the warmer months. I am so excited for what’s to come here on styledbymckenz and cannot thank you all enough for your continuous love and support. I hope you all enjoyed this little Winter clothing montage; wishing you the absolute best. With love, McKenz.

Upgrade Your Outfit- Winter Edition

Hello, everyone! As almost of you know, fashion and styling are my favorite things to blog about and I love dressing for the colder months because there are so many different options, ways to layer, and fun pieces to work with so the outfit possibilities are endless. Today I’m going to be sharing a few ways on how you can spice up your everyday outfits and make the even more fabulous. Also, sorry for the indoor shots today, the weather was so crappy out so I had to make do with some pictures against my backdrop. Anyways, let’s get on into it!

sweater: TJ Maxx, necklace: Charming Charlies, watch: Kohls, jeans: Gap, socks: Kohls, booties: UGG

My first tip for you is to layer! Throw on a flannel over your basic graphic tee, pop a sweater over your flannel, or add a jacket to your favorite outfit. This is a simple way to add a variety of textures to your looks and bundle up for the chillier temperatures.

I can not stress enough how much socks change an outfit. Put on a pair that match your scarf or sweater and you instantly have an added something to your outfit.

turtle neck: Aeropostale, scarf: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, socks: Aeropostale, booties: Old Navy

Add accessories! Hats, scarfs, and purses effortlessly alter your outfit. I always throw one of these three on if I feel as though my outfit needs a little something extra or is lacking balance. Balance is key in styling the perfect outfit!

Lastly, add some jewelery. Necklaces and bracelets instantly draw attention to a specific area wich is why I love wearing jewelry. If I had my ears pierced I would totally go for some statement earrings or classic pearls to achieve a sophisticated look.

Alex and Ani, watch: Kohls

How do you add some extra pizzazz to your everyday outfits?! Let me know in the comments below along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have. I have been loving using these tips to spice up my outfits and hope you got some inspiration from this postnas well. Have a happy Saturday! With love, McKenz.

Over The Knee Lookbook

Up until Christmas over the knee boots had been on my wish list for the longest time. I was fortunate enough to have received a pair from my grandparents this year and instantly raided Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube for some inspiration on how to wear them. I’m still experimenting with them and doing my best not to make them look inappropriate so today I am here with an over the knee l0okbook. I hope you all enjoy!

I have found that surprisingly my over the knees provide an added warmth when I wear them due to how much leg they cover which is super nice. For the days I need to bundle up I’ll throw on a turtle neck, my cute grey pea coat, and an oversized blanket scarf to complete the look.

jacket: Gap, turtle neck: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, OTK boots: DSW, scarf: DSW

I have been wanting to style my boots with a skirt so bad and decided to try it out with a turtle neck sweater overtop. I ended up loving it more than expected and found that this outfit would look perfect with tights and a cute clutch as well.

sweater: Old Navy, skirt: Forever 21, OTK boots: DSW

My faux fur vest is one of my favorite pieces to style lately so it was inevitable that I try pairing it with my boots. This outfit is perfect for the everyday outfit and would look great with a long necklace added.

vest: Old Navy, turtle neck: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, OTK boots: DSW

I am totally in love with these boots and the endless ways to style them. You can buy them here if you love them too! Let me know which outfit was your favorite in the comments below along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you all the best today and always.

Winter Clothing Haul

Hey, friends! With all of the after holiday deals and some Christmas money in my pocket, I could not help but hit up the mall and do a little shopping while I was in New York. Of course, I did not come home empty handed and I can’t say I’m disappointed about it. So today I am sharing my bargain hunting finds with you!

The first store I went to was Aeropostale. Yes, I know what you’re thinking but the whole store was 90% off due to them closing so I was able to find some really good deals on some surprisingly super cute pieces that I found.

I picked up the same turtle neck in three colors. Camel, grey, and maroon. And a simple black mock neck tee. All for $12. Crazy… I know.

Old Navy is always my place to find good deals. Let’s be real, when do I ever got there and leave empty handed. I always go for the clothes with the damaged tags because there at least an additional 50% off the clearance price and their only “damaged” because they were bought online. So yes, I did buy two perfectly good pairs of boyfriend jeans for a total of $12.

A light wash distressed pair and my first pair of dark wash ones. I’m in love.

I had a gift card from Target so these clearance booties ended up only costing me $5 out of my actual pocket. Sam&Libby never disappoints plus it was better than buying more lipstick that I already had three similar shades of.

IMG_3490.JPGLight grey = so cute.

From Forever 21, a few chokers that sadly were not on any sort of sale. It’s alright though, I have a vision for all of these bad boys.

A light denim one, a dark denim one, and a leather one.

IMG_3492.JPGLastly, the cutest purse ever that my aunt bought me while on vacation. She’s the best and this was on double clearance… SCORE!

Isn’t it so cute, I love the Western-ish look.

Well that’s a wrap for my Winter Haul. I have officially banned myself from shopping until Spring break. We’ll see how well that goes. I really want to get more into styling pieces and start doing more lookbooks because that is what I truly enjoy writing about. So, if you have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below! Thank you so much for sticking around. With love, McKenz.

Winter Fashion Favorites

Happy Wednesday everybody. With the Spring weather right around the corner I figured now would be a perfect time to share with you my winter fashion favorites. The temperatures here on the East Coast have been reaching 75 degrees for the last few days which means it’s time to break out the sandals and pack up the boots. I hope you guys have enjoyed my last few blog posts. If you missed them click here and here. Wishing you love and positivity today. With love, McKenz.

This Winter I was constantly reaching for my heaviest knit sweaters. I prefer white and black sweaters because they pair perfectly with everything from jackets, scarves, to socks. This one is one of my favorites and was purchased from Old Navy.

Flannels are another one of my favorite layering pieces. you can wear them open, buttoned up, or tied around the waist. I love pairing them with a sweater over top and than adding matching socks for a comfy and cute look. This one is from Old Navy.

My army jacket is one of my most loved clothing pieces. It looks perfect with so many outfits and is one of my favorite colors to wear (olive green.) I purchased this one form TJ Maxx for only twenty dollars.

Scarves make every outfit instantly cuter and you warmer! My favorite one is this off white and black blanket scarf with a plaid print. These look cute with dresses, flannels, jackets, and even just a solid black tshirt.

I always wanted a pair of black booties and my wish came true this Christmas. This pair is from Steve Madden and are so comfy and stylish. They look classy and make every outfit look super modest and well put together.

My Kate Spade watch is my favorite watch in my collection. I wear it everyday and it looks perfect with almost any outfit. (Check out Nordstrom Rack for super cheap designer watches.)

Alex and Anis are some of my favorite accessories. I love all the happy sayings. My favorite ones are the “crown”, the “everything happens for a reason”, and the “live a happy life”.

Brown riding boots are a necessity in every girls closet along with a good white pair of leg warmers. They look perfect with all outfits and are both timeless pieces that will never go out of style.
