Pre-Spring Fashion: Outfits + Trends

One of the most exciting parts of Spring is seeing all the styles from February’s  Fashion Week slowly making their way into wearable, everyday clothing. Walking into your favorite clothing store and seeing all the light colors, floral prints, and open toed shoes is the best feeling after being stuck in clunky winter wear for the last few months.

The first trend spotted all over during New York Fashion Week that has slowly found its way into stores is denim as always, and in many new forms. Seen as chokers, raw hems, skirts, two toned jeans, and jackets I am certain that denim will be all the rage for yet another season in a row.  In addition, you can’t forget to pull out the white jeans; they are the best for this time of year. Spotted on the streets lately have been neck scarves. They seem like an inevitable wardrobe option as we slowly transition into warmer weather these next few weeks. Plus with the endless color options and pattens everyone is sure to find one they love. Velvet was everyone’s one true love this past season and seems to be here to stay for spring, especially in the color blush! It is the trendiest color for the upcoming season. Along with funky sleeves and cutouts, pleets were spotted on everything from dresses to tanks. Lastly, the footwear. I have been seeing lace ups everywhere along with sneakers in every color and in the most creative styles! I am almost certain that Target’s spring shoes line will be steeling my money this season.

Here’s my take on these pre-spring trends-

Well what did you all think of these outfits?! Spring officially starts in three days, woohoo; I am so sick of winter! Unfortunately, us East coast peeps have been stuck with the most miserable weather the last week with freezing cold temps and alllll the snow so these outfit’s aren’t exactly as ideal for me as they would’ve been in the sixty-five degree weather we were having two weeks ago. However, I have come to the conclusion that it’s time to start putting together some ideas for the warmer temps (hopefully) headed our ways, which is what lead me to today’s post.

These are my absolute favorite posts to write so I really hope you all enjoyed! Let me know what trends you’ve been eyeing lately along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing lots of warm weather upon you all. With love, McKenz

Winter Fashion Wrap Up

With Spring’s arrival less than two weeks away, it’s about time to start packing away my chunky sweaters and pulling out my frilly tanks instead. Where I live, this Winter was not brutal by any means in comparison to year’s prior… which was terrible. I am not one to jump up and down for Winter itself but if it’s going to be cold outside I’d rather it be snowing than cloudy and dull 24/7. Which unfortunately, it was this year.

Anyways, with warmer temps (hopefully) on their way I decided what better way to say goodbye to Winter than wrapping it up by sharing with you all my favorite pieces from the season and a few of my favorite outfits I wore this past season?! Before I keep rambling, let’s get on into it.

I typically don’t wear a coat to school because we don’t use lockers at my school and nobody wants to carry one around all day so I tend to opt for sweaters, scarves, and a lightweight jacket to keep ‘warm’ during the Winter.

This year I could not get enough of vests! They are my preferred choice of outerwear because they are not too bulky and pair perfectly with almost anything. My most worn vest was definitely this fur one from Old Navy. I also could not get enough of blanket scarves. I picked up this one from Target a couple of years back and I am still obsessed.

Like I mentioned earlier, sweaters are always a must for me! I wore this fuzzy white cardigan from Hollister/ TJ Maxx literally all the time. I also could not get enough of flannels. They are perfect styled under a sweater, over a sweater, around the waist, I could go on and on because the options are seriously endless.

I received a pair of black over the knee boots from DSW for Christmas and absolutely fell in love. They instantly glam up any outfits so they were always on repeat. I also found myself in booties 90% of the Winter. My favorite ones this season were these blue velvet ones from Old Navy’s Winter collection.

Turtle necks in every form were on repeat for me all season long. Whether it was a sweater or a tee, I without a doubt wore it multiple times.

And last but certainly not least, my beloved denim. In any way, shape, or form, I wore the heck out of it this Winter. I really experimented with this trend. My denim jacket is from Kohls and my favorite pair of jeans are from Gap. Along with these I tried skirts, frayed edges, chokers, and so on. I am beyond excited to be carrying this trend on over to the warmer months as well because I feel so comfortable and confident in my own skin whenever I am wearing denim.

here are a few outfits I put together while trying on the individual pieces

Well, what clothes did you wear this Winter on repeat?! Let me know in the comments below along with any requests you may have for me as we enter the warmer months. I am so excited for what’s to come here on styledbymckenz and cannot thank you all enough for your continuous love and support. I hope you all enjoyed this little Winter clothing montage; wishing you the absolute best. With love, McKenz.

Date Night Outfit Ideas for Valentine’s Day

Hey y’all! I have been on such a Valentine’s Day kick lately and since my twin sister Madison and her boyfriend Colton are always happy to help me out when it come’s to blogging they didn’t seem too disappointed when I asked them to help me out with a few date night outfit ideas and get some cute pictures together.

Originally I was hoping that I could have a few more of my friends and their boyfriends be featured in this post but that didn’t end up working out as I had hoped. So instead the three of us all had to do an outfit change. Which despite the freezing weather, didn’t end up being so bad.

I picked out all of our outfits to somewhat coordinate for the sake of the cohesive feel I hoped this post to have, For the first set of outfits I went for the pops of pink and of course Colton’s red flannel. This worked out perfectly with the Valentine’s Day banner that I had hanging from the gate.

For the second group of outfits I went for olive-green and some pops of pink in my shoes and Madison’s necklace. Nothing too overpowering, but still a subtle touch to remind you of the holiday.

Breaking out my light pink lace ups and a coordinating necklace for this look to keep it simple and chic.

Left Outfit Details- top: Old Navy, necklace: Francesca’s, jeans: Hollister, flats: Glicks, watch: Kohls, bracelet: Boho Betty (use code ‘styledbymckenz’ at checkout for 20% off)

I went for my cargo jacket for this look and pinched it at the waist, plus threw on this gold purse for some added flair.

Right Outfit Details- jacket: TJ Maxx, jeans: Hollister, flats: Glicks, purse: Gap, watch: Kohls, bracelet: Boho Betty

Madison is all for the preppy style so I put her in a pink button up and a simple white vest. She looks so classic and of course her hair looks perfect as per usual.

Left Outfit Details- shirt: Gap, vest: Old Navy, necklace: Kendra Scott, bracelet: KJP, watch: Fossil, jeans: Hollister, leg warmers: Kohls, riding boots: Kohls

As you can tell from these looks and my post ‘Styling My Twin Sister for a Week‘ Madison is a vest kind of gal. This coordinated perfect with Colton and her light pink necklace added a subtle pop.

Right Outfit Details- vest: Old Navy, sweater: American Eagle, necklace: Charming Charlies, jeans: Hollister, leg warmers: Kohls, riding boots: Kohls

Let me tell you, picking out boy outfits is so far from easy. This red flannel was perfect for this post with the red and pops of white. Colton is a Khaki’s kind of guy and his black shoes pulled the look together.

Left Outfit Details- shirt: Abercrombie&Fitch, pants: TJ Maxx, shoes: VANS

This simple outfit is so simple and matches so well. Thank you Colton for not being complicated in front of the camera!!

The banner used in today’s post is from Hunter&Honey and is seriously so adorable.

Feel free to check out their Instagram here, and their Facebook page here if you’re interested in this banner or any other personalized goodies!

I want to give a huge thank you to Colton (and Madison!) for being such a good sport in front of the camera and my sweet momma for taking these gorgeous pictures for today’s post! I could not be happier with how they turned out and had such a good time taking them.

Alright ladies and gents, that’s a wrap for today’s post. I hope you got some ideas from these casual date night inspired looks. Let us know which look was your favorite or what you’re doing this Valentine’s Day in the comments below along with any other questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Have a fabulous day! With love, McKenz.

Styling My Twin Sister for a Week

As many of you know, I have a twin sister, Madison. Obviously we are not identical but some weeks she too wants to dress nicely. However, Madison often comes to me with a closet full of cute clothes saying she is unsure of what pieces pair together well. So this week I took advantage of her asking and decided that she would be in front of the camera rather than behind it for a change. She typically dresses very preppy. She loves Vineyard Vines and vests but likes to keep things pretty comfortable as well. In knowing this, I came up with five outfits for her to wear this week. Keep reading to check them out!

Monday- Madison specifically asked me to pick out an outfit that would look good with this denim ruffled top. I opted for some dark denim to add some contrast and some pearls to keep it extra classy and sophisticated. Her shoe selection to pair with this outfit in January wasn’t spectacular so I opted for some basic white Converse.

Outfit Details– shirt: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, bracelet: KJP, watch: Fossil, necklace: Mom’s, shoes: Converse

Tuesday- On Tuesday a little dusting of snow was expected and Madison told me she wanted to wear her bean boots and this new red sweater that she had yet to wear since receiving it for Christmas. I figured a navy flannel with red in it would pair perfectly with the sweater and the navy blue on her boots. Her KJP bracelet tied the look together and we stuck with light wash jeans to break up the navy.

Outfit Details– sweater: American Eagle, jeans: Hollister, flannel: Old Navy, shoes: Bass, bracelet: KJP, watch: Fossil

Wednesday– Today Madison asked specifically that I incorporate her olive-green rain booties into the look. I went with a matching olive-green vest and a coordinating white sweater and socks. She added a scarf for an extra layer.

Outfit Details– scarf: Old Navy, sweater: American Eagle, vest: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, booties: Old Navy, socks: Old Navy

Thursday- It wouldn’t be a typical week for Madison if I didn’t include some sort of Vineyard Vines or a quarter zip. I paired a navy Nautica quarter zip with her beloved Hunter boots and picked out a long sleeve for an added touch.

Outfit Details- quarter zip: Nautica/TJ Maxx, shirt: Vineyard Vines, jeans: Hollister, boots: Hunter, bracelet: KJP, watch: Fossil

Friday- I decided to let Madison get comfy today and paired her favorite red flannel with some basic leggings and riding boots. By throwing on a vest the outfit was instantly pulled together and she had an extra layer for the chilly start to the morning.

Outfit Details- flannel: American Eagle, vest: Kohls, leggings: Gap, riding boots: Kohls, watch: Fossil

Overall I am really pleased with the outfits I came up with for Madison and so was she. It truly goes to show that you can make an outfit from any sort of pieces as long as you have a vision and an eye. I would like to say a big thank you to Madison for letting me use her for today’s blog post and I certainly hope this won’t be the last time.

Be sure to leave a comment letting us know which look was your favorite as well as whether or not you liked this type of post. If you any other questions, comments, or requests be sure to leave them below as well. Have a fabulous day, my friends.
With love, McKenz.

Upgrade Your Outfit- Winter Edition

Hello, everyone! As almost of you know, fashion and styling are my favorite things to blog about and I love dressing for the colder months because there are so many different options, ways to layer, and fun pieces to work with so the outfit possibilities are endless. Today I’m going to be sharing a few ways on how you can spice up your everyday outfits and make the even more fabulous. Also, sorry for the indoor shots today, the weather was so crappy out so I had to make do with some pictures against my backdrop. Anyways, let’s get on into it!

sweater: TJ Maxx, necklace: Charming Charlies, watch: Kohls, jeans: Gap, socks: Kohls, booties: UGG

My first tip for you is to layer! Throw on a flannel over your basic graphic tee, pop a sweater over your flannel, or add a jacket to your favorite outfit. This is a simple way to add a variety of textures to your looks and bundle up for the chillier temperatures.

I can not stress enough how much socks change an outfit. Put on a pair that match your scarf or sweater and you instantly have an added something to your outfit.

turtle neck: Aeropostale, scarf: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, socks: Aeropostale, booties: Old Navy

Add accessories! Hats, scarfs, and purses effortlessly alter your outfit. I always throw one of these three on if I feel as though my outfit needs a little something extra or is lacking balance. Balance is key in styling the perfect outfit!

Lastly, add some jewelery. Necklaces and bracelets instantly draw attention to a specific area wich is why I love wearing jewelry. If I had my ears pierced I would totally go for some statement earrings or classic pearls to achieve a sophisticated look.

sweater: Old Navy, flannel: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, boots: DSW, purse: TJ Maxx, bracelets:
Alex and Ani, watch: Kohls

How do you add some extra pizzazz to your everyday outfits?! Let me know in the comments below along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have. I have been loving using these tips to spice up my outfits and hope you got some inspiration from this postnas well. Have a happy Saturday! With love, McKenz.

Holiday Outfit Ideas

Happy holidays, ladies! I can’t believe that Christmas is less than a week away. I still need to wrap a few gifts, watch a few more Christmas movies, and most importantly.. pick out my outfit for Christmas Eve. I decided to put together a few outfits to share with you all in case you too are having trouble deciding on the perfect outfit for an upcoming holiday party, outing, or dinner with the family!

This first outfit is the dressiest of them all. I paired this silk black shift dress with a red plaid choker that’s perfect for this time of year. It looks too cute with my red TOM wedges and pulls the outfit together so nicely. A bright red lip will make this look even more festive!

Outfit Details- dress: H&M, choker: Forever 21, heels: TOM, watch: Kohls

Some pattern pants are always a good way to go for the holidays, they are perfect for the guys too. Check out Bonobos menswear here. I paired this creme tank with my polka-dotted pixie pants from Old Navy. They are perfect for church. I tied the look together with my lace up heels and a bold red lip.

Outfit Details- tank: TJ Maxx, pants: Old Navy, heels: DSW, watch: Kohls

For the more casual occasion I have paired my maroon cowel neck sweater with some flared jeans for a fancier feel and my maroon booties. Throw on a cute cross body purse and you are good to go for the evening.

Outfit Details- sweater: TJ Maxx, jeans: Gap, booties: Old Navy, purse: Gap, watch: Kohls

Athleisure Lookbook

In recent weeks as I have been scrolling through my Pinterest and Instagram feeds I have spotted the athleisure style nearly everywhere. For those of you unfamiliar with this term (an actual word in the eyes of fashion bloggers) athleisure is defined as “casual clothing designed to be worn for athletic wear and general use”.  I have been super into styling outfits that fall under this category lately and felt that it would be wise to shammy outfits with you all. There is a variety of graphic tees, leggings, and sneakers featured in this post, as I tried to pertain to several different personal styles while keeping the main idea focused on the athleisure style itself. Below are four ideas for you.

Sunday is my favorite day of the week and hunter green is one of my favorite colors so this outfit seemed almost inevitable. This tee gives off a sporty vibe and pairs perfectly with some black tennis shoes. (Yes the leggings are hunter green, they just appear dark on camera!)

Outfit Details- tees: Hunter&Honey, leggings: TJ Maxx, tennis shoes: Nike

Aside from cheer practice which whips me into shape, I don’t do much cardio unless you count shopping lol. This tee is my favorite. It pairs so nicely with leggings and tennis shoes (these are knock off Yeezys!) which makes it super practical to throw on before running errands. I threw on an army green jacket to spice it up a bit.

Outfit Details- tee: Hunter&Honey, black leggings: TJ Maxx, Yeezy knockoffs: TJ maxi, jacket: TJ Maxx

Fun colored leggings with mesh cut outs make such a statement when paired with a classic black tee and some black running shoes. I don’t know about you all but blogging holds a close first over jogging in my eyes.

Outfit Details- tee: Hunter&Honey, maroon leggings: TJ Maxx, sneakers: Nike

For an edgy, street style inspired outfit I paired some classic black jogger pants with my denim jacket. This outfit is super comfy and pairs so well with a plain tee and some matching sneakers.

Outfit Details- tee: Hollister, denim jacket: Kohl, joggers: Gap Fit, sneakers: Nike

Well that’s a wrap for these athleisure inspired outfits. I hope you enjoyed this lookbook and gained some outfit inspo for the next time you want to look trendy while staying comfy. Let me know in the comments below which outfit was your favorite. If you have any questions or requests feel free to leave them below and I will be happy to answer them! Have a wonderful day. With love, McKenz.

Early Winter Fashion: Outfits + Trends

The beloved Fall season is making its way to an end, leaving stores fun of discounted pieces from the previous season and magazines chock-full of new style inspiration and clothing pieces headed our way in the coming months.

The first trend spotted all over during New York Fashion Week that has slowly found its way into stores is patch work denim! Whether it’s on jeans or jackets it is definitely a trend that is bold and out there. The piece can instantly transform an outfit and is an easy way to add a funky and original touch. Jackets of all sorts were very popular amongst stores Fall clothing lines. The main piece that has been noticed still topping models and being sold in our everyday stores are bomber jackets. With a wide range of color, length, and style you are sure to find one that is perfect for you. Denim in general is huge yet again this season. Distressed, patched, and flare jeans have been seen everywhere. Along with this denim trend I have seen quite a few denim skirts form then Summer months being transferred into these colder months. Turtle necks seem to be sticking around and are put of the huge craze over 80’s and 90’s fashion. Eras in general seem to be sticking around too; the fashion world and designers can not stop eating up the idea of turning old into new! Hey, I’m all for it! As far as accessorizing goes, fringe anything, chokers, and capes have been featured in every recent magazine spread.

Check out my take on these early Winter trends!-

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

We are entering the best time of the year, the holidays! The first of many is Thanksgiving obviously and I thought what better thing to post than some outfit ideas for you all. I tried my best to include some variety within the outfits and thought that these four outfits were perfect for this time of year.

To begin, I have a super cozy, chunky outfit. Turtle necks are perfect for this time of year and so is olive-green. I’m pairing this sweater from Old Navy with some matching boot socks from Kohls to create a matchy-matchy look. My skinny jeans are from Hollister and I paired this outfit with my UGG Booties to create some contrast between all the green. I simply accessorize with a long gold necklace from Loft and added a gold watch from Kohls to tie the look together.

Some families simply stay at home for the holiday and don’t get too dressed up. I personally like to stay comfortable in what I call my ‘eating clothes’ for Thanksgiving. This outfit means a loose sweater and some leggings for the win. My knit is from the Gap Outlet, my tank that is layered underneath is from Old Navy, my leggings are from Hollister, and my riding boots are from Target. I also made sure to pair some leg warmers to coordinate with the tank and add a little something extra.

For the third look I wanted to incorporate this mustard yellow top which is perfect to wear around this time of year. It’s fun, festive, and the cold shoulder is totally in style right now. The matching choker is from Forever 21, my girlfriend jeans are from Gap, and my booties are the same UGG one’s from the first look!

Some people prefer to go the dress or skirt route so if this is your situation, this is the perfect outfit for you. My button front suede skirt is super trendy and perfect for this time of year. I added a black sweater to keep at least half of my body warm and added my lace up flats to the look to coordinate with the black of the sweater. I added a gold necklace and a gold watch to match the buttons on the skirt. I adore this outfit and I hope you all do too.

Well that’s it for my Thanksgiving outfit ideas; I hope you all enjoyed. Be sure to let me know which outfit was your favorite in the comments below along with any suggestions or questions you may have! I hope you all have the best day and before I go I just wanted to remind all of you how THANKFUL I am to have you guys with me this Thanksgiving. Thank you so much for stopping by. With love, McKenz.
