Galentine’s Day- Craft, Activities, and Pajamas

Don’t be fooled y’all, Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be just for the couples; grab your gal pals and plan a girl’s night in this Valentine’s Day! You’re sure to have as much fun watching Nicholas Spark’s movies as the girls eating expensive meals at the diner down the street.

IMG_4594.JPG

First things first, a night spent in the basement calls for pajamas that are fit for the holiday. Madison and I are wearing red and white polka-dotted pants from Old Navy and plain white shirts for our cozy night lazing around. Yes, we are those twins that still match sometimes at fifteen years old, lol.

We started off our girl’s night by popping some popcorn and grabbing all the candy we could find. Opting for ice cream with too many sprinkles and whipped cream is always a good idea too. (Candy hearts are a must have for me every year even though it feels like my teeth are rotting on the spot whenever I eat them!!)

Movie marathons are always on our agenda so we picked all the sappy ones we could find around the house. ‘The Lucky One’, ‘The Vow’ and ‘The Longest Ride’ from Nicholas Sparks were on our TV tonight as well as some of our childhood favorites ‘Bride Wars’ and ‘27 Dresses’. Don’t forget the tissues because these chick flicks are sure to have you in tears. Getting cozy on the couch to watch a few movies is always a good way to end the week anyways.

Whenever we have a girl’s night we also do a stupid little craft along with it because it brings back memories of when we used to have sleepovers and craft for hours. I found these Valentine’s Day stickers lying around and since I’m obsessed with candy hearts I decided to make a few cheesy Valentine’s for my girls that couldn’t be here tonight. It’s the little things (plus the thought) that counts, my friends!

What did you do for your Galentine’s Day?! I love a good girl’s night in and am so happy to have had this one be Valentine’s day themed. Let me know what you’re doing this Valentine’s Day in the comments below along with any questions, comments, or requests you may have for me. Wishing you the best today and always, plus sending all my love your way! ❤ With love, McKenz

November Favorites

Just like every other blogger and person on the planet, I am feeling awfully overwhelmed yet not surprised that December is rolling right around the corner. Life just doesn’t want to slow down but I can’t say I’m too bummed about December being here because that means holiday movies, cute decorations, the smell of the Christmas tree, and all things festive. And come on, who doesn’t love this time of year?! With the end of a month brings a monthly favorites post, as per usual.

For makeup this month I have been into all things lip related. I think it’s because literally every inch of my body is suffering from dryness and I like to keep my lips the most moisturized. I have been using the Eos in Strawberry almost daily to hydrate my lips; it’s my favorite other than the Sweet Mint from this brand. I also use my Lush Lip Scrub about once a week to exfoliate my lips and remove any gross flakes and dead skin from the surface. During school days I still find myself reaching towards the NYX Lingerie lipsticks. They just wear so nicely that I can’t get enough of them.

It’s also officially bootie season which makes me so happy. I have been wearing my black Steve Madden booties and these brown Chelsea UGG’s. They are just too cute and pair so nicely with all of my outfits.

I usually pick my top three favorite outfits from the month so here they are. Outfit #1- sweater: Old Navy, jeans: Hollister, socks: Kohls, booties: UGG, necklace: Loft; Outfit #2- jacket: TJ Maxx, jeans: Hollister, tee: Gap, sneakers: Nike; Outfit #3- flannel: Old Navy, tee: H&M, jeans: Gap, shoes: Converse. I forgot to mention that I have also been loving the athleisure look. Don’t forget that I post an outfit of the week every Sunday in my “Weekly Wrap Up” section.

I have also finished three books this month. I find myself having quite a bit of free time these days now that I don’t have cheer practice every single day for three hours and am only cheering at games a few times a week. I read The Perks Of Being a Wallflower, a book about five friends and their love for clothes that I just can’t think of the name for, and Until Friday Night which was absolutely incredible. It’s a high school love story with football incorporated, such a good read.

I also sadly finished One Tree Hill this month. If you have been around for quite some time you would know I have been head over heels in love with this show since I started it in June. I am so sad that I finished but so happy to have known the ending. Definitely a Netflix must! I have now started 90210 but haven’t gotten super into it yet.

Well that is it for now; I hope you have had a fabulous November ladies. I would love to receive some holiday post requests and ideas for the upcoming weeks. If you have any questions or comments please don’t hesitate to leave them below. Leave the link to your November Favorites below… I am more than happy to read it! Sending you all my love. With love, McKenz

Weekly Wrap Up

Weekly Wrap Up #42 (week in my life + ootw)

Woohoo, another week is over and Fall is officially in full swing which makes me feel like the happiest girl in the world. I feel like I’m stuck in a routine of school, cheer, three hours of homework, take a second to breathe, go to sleep, wake up and do it all over again. I’ve been reminding myself lately that the whole reason why I started Weekly Wrap Ups was so I didn’t feel this way. The point was to find something exciting, different, and happy about each day. This coming week I really want to focus on that; high school is a huge part of my life and grades are important but so am I, and if that means taking ten minutes out of my night to read the Bible or waking up ten minutes early to crank the tunes while getting ready then so be it. Gosh I love life and am so thankful for the abundance of love that is around me. Remember to take a deep breath because life is so worth it and so full of everything if you open your eyes to it. I hope you all like this week’s outfits and posts, I’m off to go study for AP Government (talk about exciting!!). Have a wonderful week guys, love you all endlessly. With love, McKenz.

Blogger Awards & A Bit Of a Life Update

Hello everyone, I have gotten a couple of blogging nominations recently and wanted to answer them this morning because I love getting to know other bloggers and think that these posts are so fun to read. Plus I love checking out everyone’s nominations. So without further ado, let’s get into the nominations!

I am so thankful for my sweet friend , alittlebitofcoffee for nominating me to do the Sunshine Blogger Award! Her blog is the cutest thing and exudes so much positivity, I def recommend you checking her out! And another friend, marioness for tagging me in the Sunshine Blogger Award as well! Her blog is full of fashion, beauty, and reviews. Stop by and give her blog some love!

Here are the rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
  • Answer all the questions sent by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate blogs to receive the award and write them new questions
  • List the rules
  1. If you had all the time in the world, and nowhere to be, what would be the first thing you did? I think the first thing I would do, is call my best friends over and have them come on the adventure with me. I love time to myself don’t get me wrong, but I would love to have them along for the ride with me.
  2. What is one thing you do for relaxation? I usually get thirty minutes of relaxation time on a school night before I’m so tired my body just wants to sleep. I tend to spend those minutes with my Bible and talking with God. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders once I’m done.
  3. What’s your favorite fall essentials? Scarves! I have so many of them and pair them with almost anything in the Fall time.
  4. What do you love to write about the most on your blog? I love writing Weekly Wrap Ups because I get to analyze everything I did throughout the week, and I adore seeing all the outfits I wore that week all lined up.
  5. Would you rather be too cold or too hot? I want to say hot, but I’m going to have to go with cold because you can always add layers of clothes, you can only take away so many.

  1. What is the purpose of your blog? The purpose of my blog is to do what I love most and share that love with people who feel the same way about it!
  2. Are you excited for autumn? Why? Yes, it is by far my favorite season. I love the chilliness, leaves changing, and all the festive food that comes with it. Not to mention; Halloween!!
  3. How it has been the first days of school? Honestly, school and everything that comes with it has been kicking my butt. I’m taking my first AP class, cheering about 20 hours a week, and have my first play of the school year doing makeup in a few weeks.
  4. Tell us one big dream you have: I hope to be older and actually enjoy my job. I want to look forward to my job and enjoy what I do everyday which is why I’m not entirely sure what i want to pursue in the future. As of right now, I am leaning towards fashion journalism or fashion merchandising.
  5. How has your blog changed you? This is an interesting question, I have definitely changed since I started my blog. I feel like I have become  bit more independent and I have learned a lot of time management skills. I also feel like I carry a lot more pride around with me.
  6. What is your favourite book and film? I don’t have a specific favorite book other than the kind that makes you question everything about yourself and being when you’re done. The kind that made you feel apart of the story, those are the best. My favorite movie is probably The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks.
  7. Where have you been this holidays? This year I have been to New York, North Carolina and Wisconsin!
  8. What made you start a blog? I was sitting with my mom one evening complaining about not knowing what I wanted to do in the future. I wanted to write, be in front of a camera but also behind one, wanted fashion to be involved. So after thinking of countless hours contemplating the idea of a blog and trying to choose a name, styledbymckenz was born.
  9. What do you like the most about autumn? The fashion!
  10. How you would name your favourite color? Happiness, yellow reminds me of happiness perfectly.
  11. Best place in the world for you: I’m not sure, I do really want to travel around the United States though and try to make it around to all fifty states.

Bloggers I nominate-

aIn the midst of the last few weeks I feel as though I have been losing myself. I have felt so detached from my relationships with everyone, including myself and Jesus. It is in these times though that I try to remind myself that God is making me feel these things for a reason. He wants me to feel these things so that I understand what happiness and fulfillment is. I  have been reminded these last few weeks that it is perfectly okay to feel down in the dumps as long as you know that there are better days ahead. It is perfectly okay to take time for yourself and be filled with the Lord’s presence. Everything we do is rooted and grounded in love and that is the most comforting feeling of them all.

I hope you all have a fabulous week. Thank you so much for stopping by. With love, McKenz.

Life Update

Good morning everyone, I feel like it’s been quite some time since I was able to sit down and just ramble to you all about my life and what’s been going on. With Summer quickly coming to an end, I know it’s inevitable for some things to be changing which is why I wanted to get you all in the loop and let you know what’s going to be happening over the next few weeks as I transition back into the school year.

First things first; the blogging schedule. Throughout the Summer I uploaded Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and as always Sundays. As much as I would like to continue posting five times a week, I think I’m going to have to cut down to four (eliminating Saturdays)  This next thing is going to sound so irrelevant but I promise it isn’t. I have six eye shadow palettes and plenty of miscellaneous shadows, trios, and quads lying around. Last year I wanted to use all of my shadows equally so each school week I would use the same palette every day for a week. For example, I would call it “Naked One Week”, “Naked Two Week”, and so forth. In all it takes me about eight weeks to finish up using all my shadows equally. I was thinking about starting this back up the second week of school and was wondering if you all would be interested in seeing a “Makeup Of The Week- Naked 1 Edition” and so forth for those eight weeks. If you’re interested in seeing these posts let me know, they would most likely be uploaded on Saturdays, calling for a fifth post each week. I am totally willing to do a Makeup of The Weeks for those eight weeks if you all would like to see them!

Many of you probably know that I made a YouTube channel due to many requests. However, I’m not sure if you all are interested in seeing consistent videos there, or if you only wanted to see that one video. If people are interested in me keeping up with makeup tutorials on my channel I would be happy to. However, because blogging is my first priority and main focus, I would most likely only upload once every two weeks. I would like to thank you all though for such a positive response to my video, I was overwhelmed with love and support and I am so grateful for that!

As many of you know I am a Varsity Cheerleader for my school and it is HUGELY time consuming. I spend at least thirty hours a week cheering during the school year. As we finish up summer I have only ten-twelve a week. I adore cheerleading and have for the majority of my life, please keep in mind though that during the school year cheer takes up a huge amount of my free time.  I am going to try and keep you all in the loop and maybe even do a GRWM for a football game or do a Day In My Life on a game day; football is a BIG deal at my school! On top of this I am going to try and stay involved in my school’s drama department, I loved being the makeup artist and would love to continue being a part of it.

Also, I will be entering my sophomore year of high school and I am so excited for this year. I personally loved my first year of school and am very happy to be getting back into he swing of things in a couple weeks. I’m someone that loves routine and being busy so school inevitably keeps me that way. I also have a tough schedule this year, am taking my first AP class, and am going to be taking a Journalism class which I am so excited for! I go back exactly two weeks from today.

As Summer goes on I’ve had a lot of free time to sit and watch how much my blog has grown. I am nearing 1,000 Instagram followers and recently hit 350 here on the blog. I’ve started to carry around a sense of pride in my stomach. I can not believe how far I have come from blogging. When I started I never thought it would turn into anything more than a place for me to share what I wore to school with my close friends and family. I have watched it take off and turn into so much more. I have connected with strangers, made some amazing friends, and been given the opportunity to inspire people I don’t even know and that is just absolute breath taking to me. I can not thank my friends, family, and all of you enough for helping me follow my dreams. My original goal for the end of 2016 was to hit 1,000 followers on Instagram and 500 on the blog. I am so happy to be working towards that direction, I’ve also learned so much about myself from blogging and it has allowed me to realize what kind of career I would like to pursue.

Last night as I was reading my Bible I came across a verse from Proverbs; it says “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” It’s Proverbs 16:3 and it was the perfect reminder that as I enter this state of change in the next couple weeks I mustn’t forget that when balancing school, blogging, cheer, theater, a social life, and following my dreams that I can’t lose sight of the Lord, for He is the reason for all my success and the root of the love I radiate to others.

If you’ve read all the way to here, thank you for listening to me ramble! I had so much to fill you in on it seems like, or maybe I just needed to start typing in order to organize my own thoughts. Anyways, please leave me any requests, comments, or feedback, I take everything you all say into consideration. I would love for you all to leave me your thoughts on the Makeup Of The Week’s and my YouTube channel, thank you in advance! I hope you all have the best day! Thank you for everything. With love, McKenz.

Finding Yourself

I Chose To Love Life

Hebrews 6:10 says “For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name by having served and continuing to serve the holy ones.”

As a normal teenage girl with responsibilities, a family, and a social life I have found myself feeling aimless in my own name time and time again. I am fully aware that feeling lost in place with ourselves often means feeling lost in Jesus’s name as well. A few months ago if you asked me where I stood with myself I would’ve told you that I wasn’t sure. It felt like everything in my life was temporary, that I was putting forth so much effort into everything I did and getting absolutely nothing in return. I felt lost. And then one morning I snapped out of it and realized that nobody else was going to mend myself but me. So I threw myself into action. I began to invest my time in people that invested there time in me. I joined theatre and started doing stage makeup. I dove full force into my blogging, setting record views for myself within the weeks. I started going to church on Sundays, spent time with Bible every night. I told my friends and family I loved them everyday, tried my absolute hardest not to take them for granted. I looked in the mirror and saw the good in myself rather than picking out every flaw. I shared more laughs with my best friend in one hour than I had in the last month. I put myself out there to make new friends who I’ve spent some of the best days of my life with. I chose to love life and it loved me right back. I’ve come to realize that the effort we put into life is only recognized if we believe it is. I now know that regardless of how close or far I am to God His love for me is everlasting and that my deeds do not go unnoticed by Him. I’ve learned that “The pain you’ve been feeling, can’t compare to the joy that’s coming.” -Romans 8:18

I’ve realized that God’s love endures forever. I realized that there is no weakness in forgiveness. I realized that true love is being as happy for someone else’s accomplishments as you are for your own. I realized that the world was mine and life was only as good as I chose to make it. I realized that I’ve found people that I see nothing but absolute greatness in, people I would do anything for. I realized that I love myself and I’ve created a life I couldn’t imagine any other way. And most of all I’ve realized that you have to lose yourself in order to find yourself.

I hope one day you feel a smile inching it’s way across your face for no reason as much as I do, but until then I’ll continue to tell you how I’m managing to do so. Sending so much happiness your way. With love, McKenz.
