Spring Cleaning

Typically when I think of spring I think of a general cleanliness, a fresh start. It feels almost wrong to me to enter the new season without deep cleaning my room. I know for many people spring cleaning may seem tedious but it doesn’t have to be! Crank some tunes, get some room decor inspiration from Pinterest, and get out the garbage bags because it’s time to get cleaning.

Spring Cleaning

Start off by stripping your bed. Wash your sheets and put on a fresh set and then make your bed. I cannot tell you how much cleaner your room will look once you simply make your bed! It’s not that hard and it will instantly make your day feel more productive.

Honesty, the only thing that makes my room seem messy is if there are clothes lying around or my closet is overflowing. If you’re looking to really analyze your wardrobe and full clean it out I recommend dumping its entire contents on the floor. This way you have no choice but to sort through it all. I do this with both my closet AND dresser.

Make three piles: Keep, Donate, and Trash. Go through every. single. piece. Until there is nothing left. If you haven’t worn it in the last six months, chances are it would be better off in the arms of a new owner. If you really want to keep it, put it on a different colored hanger so you are reminded to wear that piece before anything else. If it’s damaged to the point where it can’t be fixed or is just flat-out grubby, throw it in the trash pile.

Organize your shoes however you desire but get them in order, untie the laces if you were too lazy to take them off the right way the last time you wore them and put each shoe with its rightful other.

I tend to throw all of my socks in a bin to keep them in one designated spot and hang my scarves on a holder to keep the massive mound of scarves off of my closet floor. By hanging things like my shoes and scarves on the dooor I can maxamize the space of my closet. Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

If you have a desk or bookshelf, rearrange it! It can open up the space of your room or in some cases, any change of scenery is good for the mind.  I decorate my shelves with hats, old magazines, sunglasses, shoes, anything that screams me. I like to switch them up as the seasons change so I don’t get bored with them.

My room is by no means the biggest which is why I always clean it from season to season. My closet is tiny but I keep it packed and organized that way I am constantly sifting through different clothes and can turly see what I have to wear. If you find yourself staring at your closet each morning thinking ‘omg I have nothing to wear’ chances are you just need to reorganize it and see whats inside.

  2. Love these tips and I couldn’t agree with them more girl. I changed my sheets this week and added some spring decor to my desk! I can’t wait to put away my sweaters and bring out all my dresses! My room is fairly small, but when it does get messy (clothes everywhere !!) I always first make my bed and then throw everything into a pile in the middle of my room and tackle it like that. It’s so quick and easy everytime!!
