Top 16 Favorite Outfits of 2016

With the year coming to an end I am left with many more memories, laughs, and of course clothes. As I have looked back at my year of blogging in review I have come to the conclusion that my viewers mostly like to see my outfits, and I’m pleased about it because that’s what I enjoy most, as it was the sole purpose of this blog to begin with. With over four hundred outfit ideas plastered across this blog’s face over less than a year’s time period, I was able to narrow down my top sixteen favorites of twenty sixteen.

(ps these are in no particular order and this was super fun for me to see how much my quality, style, and looks have changed over the year!!)

Athleisure Lookbook

In recent weeks as I have been scrolling through my Pinterest and Instagram feeds I have spotted the athleisure style nearly everywhere. For those of you unfamiliar with this term (an actual word in the eyes of fashion bloggers) athleisure is defined as “casual clothing designed to be worn for athletic wear and general use”.  I have been super into styling outfits that fall under this category lately and felt that it would be wise to shammy outfits with you all. There is a variety of graphic tees, leggings, and sneakers featured in this post, as I tried to pertain to several different personal styles while keeping the main idea focused on the athleisure style itself. Below are four ideas for you.

Sunday is my favorite day of the week and hunter green is one of my favorite colors so this outfit seemed almost inevitable. This tee gives off a sporty vibe and pairs perfectly with some black tennis shoes. (Yes the leggings are hunter green, they just appear dark on camera!)

Outfit Details- tees: Hunter&Honey, leggings: TJ Maxx, tennis shoes: Nike

Aside from cheer practice which whips me into shape, I don’t do much cardio unless you count shopping lol. This tee is my favorite. It pairs so nicely with leggings and tennis shoes (these are knock off Yeezys!) which makes it super practical to throw on before running errands. I threw on an army green jacket to spice it up a bit.

Outfit Details- tee: Hunter&Honey, black leggings: TJ Maxx, Yeezy knockoffs: TJ maxi, jacket: TJ Maxx

Fun colored leggings with mesh cut outs make such a statement when paired with a classic black tee and some black running shoes. I don’t know about you all but blogging holds a close first over jogging in my eyes.

Outfit Details- tee: Hunter&Honey, maroon leggings: TJ Maxx, sneakers: Nike

For an edgy, street style inspired outfit I paired some classic black jogger pants with my denim jacket. This outfit is super comfy and pairs so well with a plain tee and some matching sneakers.

Outfit Details- tee: Hollister, denim jacket: Kohl, joggers: Gap Fit, sneakers: Nike

Well that’s a wrap for these athleisure inspired outfits. I hope you enjoyed this lookbook and gained some outfit inspo for the next time you want to look trendy while staying comfy. Let me know in the comments below which outfit was your favorite. If you have any questions or requests feel free to leave them below and I will be happy to answer them! Have a wonderful day. With love, McKenz.

*Hunter&Honey is a small business specialized in custom tees and goodies. This post was not sponsored but them, however I did want to share with you all the pieces I have purchased from them. Click here to check out their Facebook page where you can order a shirt like mine!

Gift Ideas for the Gals (under $50)

The holiday season is in full swing which for a lot of people means being stuck with no ideas on what to get their gals. I’m here to get rid of that uncertainty and  give you some ideas for all of your girl friends and sisters. I tried to keep all of the gift ideas under $30 to help keep you from breaking the bank (except for the Kendra Scott necklace that I couldn’t help but throw in!). IMG_2652.JPG

Swell water bottles have been everywhere lately and they are just too cute. With a variety of colors, finishes, and sizes you are sure to find now that is the perfect gift. Add a personalized monogram to it and you just gave such a practical gift while still showing some thought.

I’m pretty positive no girl would be disappointed with a little bit of makeup in their stocking. The Too Faced better Than Sex Mascara is a great gift, they come in so many cute holiday sets around this time of yer and are perfect to try before committing to the full size.

Socks used to be the gift I dreaded when I was younger but came to appreciate as I got older. Whether their a pair of fun, holiday fuzzy socks or thick knit boot socks they are such  treat to receive!

Every girl lust’s over jewelry. Pandora has some gorgeous rings and see are as cheap as $25 like the one I have pictured here! Kendra Scott necklaces are such a statement where I live and many girls wear them layered with chunkier necklaces. They are on the pricier side but would make such a great gift. (Perfect for the girls in your family!)

I hate buying books with my own money but love receiving them as a gift around the holidays. Find out your friends favorite author and treat them to a new book and some hot cocoa so they can hang by the fire! They are sure to love it.

Notebooks are another super cute idea. Wrap up a notebook, some pens, and some candy and you have a thoughtful gift just like that. Marble notebooks are all over Pinterest right now and fit so many girls aesthetics’.

Old Navy has some of my favorite booties because they’re affordable and comfortable. Sure they might be around $45 to begin with but Old Navy is constantly running flash sales or handing out Old Navy Cash so you are sure to find a good deal on them. Plus, what girl doesn’t love a new pair of shoes?!

Scarves, hats, and gloves are always fun little gifts too. They’re perfect for your trendy friend that loves layering up or lives in a colder climate! Old Navy and Target have great ones around this time of year.

There are so many other small gifts I could think of to give to your girls but I’ll leave you with these for now. I hope you all got a few ideas from this post and enjoyed it! Have a wonderful day and a very happy holidays. If you have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below! With love, McKenz.

Early Winter Fashion: Outfits + Trends

The beloved Fall season is making its way to an end, leaving stores fun of discounted pieces from the previous season and magazines chock-full of new style inspiration and clothing pieces headed our way in the coming months.

The first trend spotted all over during New York Fashion Week that has slowly found its way into stores is patch work denim! Whether it’s on jeans or jackets it is definitely a trend that is bold and out there. The piece can instantly transform an outfit and is an easy way to add a funky and original touch. Jackets of all sorts were very popular amongst stores Fall clothing lines. The main piece that has been noticed still topping models and being sold in our everyday stores are bomber jackets. With a wide range of color, length, and style you are sure to find one that is perfect for you. Denim in general is huge yet again this season. Distressed, patched, and flare jeans have been seen everywhere. Along with this denim trend I have seen quite a few denim skirts form then Summer months being transferred into these colder months. Turtle necks seem to be sticking around and are put of the huge craze over 80’s and 90’s fashion. Eras in general seem to be sticking around too; the fashion world and designers can not stop eating up the idea of turning old into new! Hey, I’m all for it! As far as accessorizing goes, fringe anything, chokers, and capes have been featured in every recent magazine spread.

Check out my take on these early Winter trends!-

I remember New Years Eve working away on my mom’s laptop at my Grandma’s kitchen table while snacking on some week old deserts as the rest of the family laughed around their circle of chairs at the same old joke we have been telling for years. I was frantically typing, choosing colors, fixing layouts in hopes to have my own corner of the Internet by  January first. I remember clicking “Publish” on my first blog post. I acted so nonchalant at the time, thinking it wasn’t too big of a deal.

I remember the day I hit 100 followers. I hadn’t been blogging more than two months. I was in math class at the time and smiled with glee, it seemed absolutely unreal. I sent a screenshot of the “Congratulations, your site has reached 100 followers” notification in my group chat and my friends congratulated me, smiling at me with a sense of pride in their eyes as we passed in the hallways. I remember Tim telling me how awesome it was.

I remember the day I hit 300 followers. It was so late at night and I was on the phone with Sean after a long day at the beach. We were chatting up a storm, really getting to know one another. That night I got a notification saying I had reached 300 followers. I cried, I was so happy. Sean was the best friend about it too.

I remember the day I hit 500 followers. It was a long day of school and I came home, logged onto my computer and glanced at my following count. And in that moment I have never felt so proud of myself. Proud of who blogging had made me, how it was beginning to change my life, and how supportive everyone was towards me. My friends congratulated me and Sean told me I deserved it. My parents seemed so happy for me, Celia too.

I remember the day I hit 800 followers. I was having one of those week’s that made you feel like you could hardly breathe it was so packed. It was calming to know how many people were along for the ride with me. Success was one of the things GB and I had prayed for just nights before this one.

Monday I hit 1,000 followers. But what is one thousand people to you. To me it’s not just a number and it’s sad how easily we get caught up in our world of technology. It’s sad how much we downplay our success because we think it’s not a big number COMPARED to everyone else. One thousand people. To me that’s every single person at my school following me. That’s hours worth of time to meet every single person. One thousand people, to me that’s incredible, rewarding, simply  unforgettable.

It’s funny to think that there was a time when the only person that read my corner of the Internet was myself. It has grown into something so much more than that and I could not be prouder. I am so unbelievably thankful for all of the people who have made this journey so incredibly unforgettable because it is to you who I have to thank for all of my success.  The girl who thought would never have something created for her, was certainly wrong. I’ve created something I’d never even dreamed of…

Top 10 Drugstore Makeup Products of 2016

Good morning and happy Monday, loves! One of the first posts I ever made on styledbymckenz was a 2015 Makeup Favorites; today I’m doing an updated version with a twist! I’ll be sharing ten of my favorite drugstore products from this past year. I have discovered quite a few new products this year and am so excited to share them with you all! Plus they are all super affordable so they are sure to not break your bank!

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetNivea Men’s Shave Balm- $7 This product was hyped up all over YouTube for months. It is a Men’s Shave Balm but due to the ingredients it works as a perfect primer. It leaves my face feeling hydrated, smells great, and has not broken me out over the six months I’ve used it.

Maybelline Matte Fit Me Foundation-$8 This has been my holy grail foundation for a the last couple of years. It has amazing coverage and leaves a matte finish. It’s perfect for my dry-normal skin and has a wide range of colors.

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

NYX HD Concealer- $7 This concealer is very similar to the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. It’s creamy and provides a medium-high amount of coverage which is perfect for covering blemishes and dark circles.

Maybelline Color Tattoo – $7 By far the most amazing product from the drugstore. I’ve been using these babies for four years now because they’re just that good. They are the creamiest product that can be worn as a regular shadow or a base under more shadows. It also takes about a year of everyday use to finish one pot!

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder-$5 Everyone seems to have tried this powder before. It’s mattefying, long wearing, and cheap!

Processed with VSCO with a5 presetL’Oréal Pro Matte Foundation-$11 This is on the pricier side for a drugstore foundation but is well worth the few extra dollars. This foundation leaves your skin looking so good it almost looks airbrushed. It’s very dry and lasts forever. I’ve had 18 hour makeup days with this foundation and was still pleased with how it looked by the end of the day.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara -$6 I adore Maybelline mascara. Their classic, Great Lash mascara in black is so good. It’s separating, volumizing, and doesn’t clump. Everything one could want in a mascara!

Wet N Wild Matte Lipstick-$2 These are my absolute favorite lipsticks from the drugstore. They are two dollars a pop and are the most longwearing lipsticks ever. They have a matte finish and so many shades. I would however suggest swatching them before buying; the actual shade of the lipstick almost never matches the color on the sticker.

NYX Lingerie Lipstick-$8 I love NYX products, especially their lip products. Their liquid lipsticks are so good as well. They layer nicely and have great color pay off. Not to mention they literally last forever.

Wet N Wild Comfort Zone Palette- $6 The only drugstore shadows I ever use are from Wet N Wild. This palette has eight colors that all swatch beautifully and wear so well on the lid. My high-end shadows are just as good as the ones from this palette.

If you all have any drugstore recommendations, please leave them below; I am always looking for new products to try. If you want to check out last years recommendations click here. Thank you all so much for reading. If you have any questions, comments, or requests feel free to leave them below. Have a fabulous day. With love, McKenz.
