What’s in My Backpack

Good morning everyone, today I am here with another Back To School post. Today I am going to be sharing with you what’s inside of my backpack! I hope you all enjoy.

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

I suppose I will start off with the actual backpack itself. I have the North Face Borealis in the color “black/powder blue”. This backpack is quite large and hold lots of stuff. It can be used for school or hiking. It has three pockets,a laptop space, two side cup holders, and a whistle. I used this backpack my freshman year and will be using it again this year. They are rather pricey but I found it well worth the money. My only complaint about this backpack is that when you first start to wear it the straps do rub pretty bad on your shoulders but it goes away after the first week. Over all I do really enjoy this backpack and almost every girl in my school wear a North Face one because the quality of them is amazing.

The main are of the backpack has quite a bit of room and is where I keep the majority of my stuff. First I keep my folders which is¬†where I store all of my papers and homework. I have six white Five Star folders with gold metallic stickers from Hunter&Honey that say the subject. AS you can see this year I will be taking Journalism, AP NSL, Honors English 10, Honors Spanish 3, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Chemistry, and Tech. Moving on I have a five subject journal that is white with an aqua monogram. I loved having a five subject last year and it was so easy to stay organized. I also have a black one subject notebook for my college level class. As for my Lily Agenda, it’s a large and I keep it right in front of my¬†spirals. Where your laptop would be stored I keep my pencil pouch which is gold sparkly and from Target last year. It holds pencils, pens, a highlighter, flash cards, and white out.

IMG_7292.JPG

The next zipper pocket has a bunch of random pockets and such. I keep perfume, deodorant, hand sanitizer, floss, and lip balm within them. Outside of those mini pockets you do have room to put something so this is where I store my Vera Bradley lunchbox.

IMG_7293.JPG

The next and last pocket is about a phone and a half width’s deep. So I keep chap-stick, a pencil and my phone in this pocket. In case you were wondering I have a white and grey Lifeproof case and the stickers on it are from Hunter&Honey as well. I also keep my Contigo water bottle in one of the side pockets of the backpack.

Well that’s it for what’s in my backpack. If you all have any questions, comments, or requests please leave them below. I am so pleased with my Back To School series so far and hope you all are enjoying it. Thank you so much for reading, stay tuned for more Back To School posts and a new YouTube video coming soon! Have a wonderful day. With love, McKenz.

Back To School Essentials + Freshman Advice

Back to school season is upon us and I am ready to share with you all my essentials for a successful school year. I am going to be a sophomore in high school, am a Varsity cheerleader, makeup artist for the theater department, and obviously a blogger. Balancing a social life, academics, and extracurricular activities can be quite the hassle; here are my tips and essentials that help keep me sane throughout the school year.

I would highly recommend keeping an agenda or planner with you during the school year. It’s the simplest way to keep all your events, school work, and uploads in check. I wouldn’t have survived freshman year without mine. I have a Large Lily Agenda and would be happy to do an in-depth post on it if you would like to see one. Along with this, go back to school with supplies you actually like. You spend the majority of your time at school in a classroom, try to enjoy it as much as possible. I love white and gold because it makes me happy so that’s what my school supplies look like!

IMG_7271.JPG

For the first few months of school I wear open toed shoes like it’s my job. My favorite pairs are Jack Rogers, Birkenstocks, and a pair of lace up sandals from Target. These shoes will never fail you; between these three options you’ll be set for almost any occasion.

I would definitely recommend having a good pair of jeans that you feel confident in for those days when Fall starts to creep around the corner. My favorite pair are theses light wash distressed Girlfriend jeans from Gap. I would also recommend having a little black dress as it is perfect for school days, going out, dinners, and even dances. My favorite one is from Old Navy and I wear it at least twice every month during the school year. It can be transitioned to all four seasons which is why I end up getting so much use out of it.

Have an accessory that makes you feel good and that you enjoy pairing with your outfits. I like layered necklaces, bandannas, and pearls. Along with jewelry I would HIGHLY recommend wearing a watch. Whether it’s a $20 Target watch or a $200 Kate Spade, having a watch is one of the most useful things to have in high school if you ask me.

I wear a full face of makeup almost all year round. However, the one product I would recommend finding a favorite of is lipstick or lip-gloss. I have a few favorites that I throw into my backpack for days when I forget to apply anything or am in need of a little pick me up. I love Maybelline, Nyx, and Bare Minerals lip products. I also love to wear bralettes during¬†the school year. They are the easiest way to dress up a plain outfit and are so comfortable. Urban Outfitters has the best ones and they’re only $20.

My last essential is having a lanyard and Vera Bradley wallet. Everyone and their mother carries these around in my high school. It’s the easiest way to have your keys, money, and school ID all in one place. We typically wear these to sports events or throw them in our backpacks. My lanyard is from Vineyard Vines and my wallet is from Vera Bradley but the pattern has been retired for about three years. Also, the crown key chain is from Michael’s Craft Store.

To all the incoming freshman here is my advice to you: make friends and make A LOT of them. You don’t have to become best friends with them or hang out every weekend but introduce yourself to everyone. Be friendly towards others and always be open to new ideas. Your friend group will change someday and that is okay. Along with that, you don’t have to stick to your grade. Some of the greatest friends I have are upperclassmen, they don’t bite; however, you do have to watch out for some of them, you don’t want to fall in with the wrong crowd. Stay on top of your schoolwork. Freshman year is the easiest it’s going to get. If you’re going to be at school seven hours a day you might as well put in the effort to do well. Go to every school event. Go to dances, go to Football games, go to pep rallies. High School is what you make it. It’s your choice whether they are the best four years or the worst four years. And lastly, be confident. Enjoy it while it lasts and be excited for this new chapter in your life!

That is it for today’s blog post,¬†I¬†hope you all enjoyed. if you have any requests for future blog posts or YouTube videos please leave them below I am willing o take any suggestions. Thank you so much for reading. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and are getting excited for school! With love, McKenz.

Back To School Outfit Ideas

Back to school season is right around the corner. I know I’m not the only one getting a little bit excited for all the newness to begin. I don’t know what it is about back to school that I love so much; maybe it’s the crisp fold of the new jeans, or the neatness of the new school supplies, or the sun-kissed glow you walk in with on the first day along with a¬†mouthful of memories waiting to be shared with your friends. But who could forget the outfit you spent days picking out… Today I’m here to share with you five back to school outfit ideas. I hope you all enjoy!

*My school does not wear uniforms nor do we have a dress code. Feel free to alter these outfits to fit your dress code or personal desires.

I think this is my favorite of the five outfits so we’re going to start with it. I thrifted this button front denim skirt about three years ago. Who would’ve thought that they would be all the talk now a days. I styled this with a white top and my Jack Rodger look a likes for a very classy and put together look. With the skirt it’s very trendy and all together is the perfect happy-medium for the first day!

Outfit Details- shirt: Forever 21, skirt: thrifted/Mossimo, shoes: Pierre Dumas, watch: Target, bracelet: Boho Betty

I know a lot of schools can’t wear dresses that don’t reach their finger tips. I picked up this one from Forever 21 and it fit’s like a glove! It pairs perfectly with my Converse and is the easiest outfit ever to wear. So simple, so cute, and so comfy. I love how this can easily be transitioned into the fall as well.

Outfit Details- dress: Forever 21, shoes: Converse, watch: Target, bracelet: Boho Betty

I wanted to include an outfit that was paired with shorts; however, it occurred to me that some of you might not be able to wear shorts to school. Don’t worry I wear this outfit with cuffed jeans all the time as well. I wish you could see the detailing of this shirt, it has white and navy dots on it but unfortunately the camera didn’t pick it up. Anyways, a chiffon shirt, cuffed shorts, and a pair of matching sandals is perfect for the first week.

Outfit Details- shirt: Forever 21, shorts: American Eagle, shoes: Pierre Dumas, watch:Target, bracelet: Boho Betty

I’m seriously considering wearing something similar to this on my first day of school.I¬†just picked up these espardrilles¬†from Forever 21 and am so in love and they are so in style right now. I see them constantly on my Instagram and in magazines and they paired perfectly with a little black dress. You can never go wrong with an outfit like this. You could always throw ¬†a¬†sweater over it too if your school doesn’t allow thin straps.

Outfit Details- dress: Old Navy, shoes: Forever 21, watch: Target, bracelet: Boho Betty

Lastly I wanted to throw in an outfit with white jeans. Gotta wear them as much as possible before Labor day :,). I threw on this super cute blouse for a dressy, classy look. This is perfect for my girls that prefer to keep their legs covered but still want to be trendy and comfortable. I am now realizing that three of these outfits included these shoes but they are seriously the best and look good with almost any outfit.

Outfit Details- shirt:TJ Maxx , jeans: Gap Outlet, shoes: Pierre Dumas, jewelry: Target, Boho Betty

I hope you all liked these outfit ideas I put together. This was the start of my back to school series so stay tuned for more posts to come. As always please leave any requests below I am happy to hear your suggestions. I will be posting my first week of school outfits when the time comes. Thank you so much for reading, have a wonderful day. With love, McKenz.

Life Update

Good morning everyone, I feel like it’s been quite some time since I was able to sit down and just ramble to you all about my life and what’s been going on. With Summer quickly coming to an end, I know it’s inevitable for some things to be changing which is why I wanted to get you all in the loop and let you know what’s going to be happening over the next few weeks as I transition back into the school year.

First things first; the blogging schedule. Throughout the Summer I uploaded Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and as always Sundays. As much as I would like to continue posting five times a week, I think I’m going to have to cut down to four (eliminating Saturdays) ¬†This next thing is going to sound so irrelevant but I promise it isn’t. I have six eye shadow palettes and plenty of miscellaneous shadows, trios, and quads lying around. Last year I wanted to use all of my shadows equally so each school week I would use the same palette every day for a week. For example, I would call it “Naked One Week”, “Naked Two Week”, and so forth. In all it takes me about eight weeks to finish up using all my shadows equally. I was thinking about starting this back up the second week of school and was wondering if you all would be interested in seeing a “Makeup Of The Week- Naked 1 Edition” and so forth for those eight weeks. If you’re interested in seeing these posts let me know, they would most likely be uploaded on Saturdays, calling for a fifth post each week. I am totally willing to do a Makeup of The Weeks for those eight weeks if you all would like to see them!

Many of you probably know that I made a YouTube channel due to many requests. However, I’m not sure if you all are interested in seeing consistent videos there, or if you only wanted to see that one video. If people are interested in me keeping up with makeup tutorials on my channel I would be happy to. However, because blogging is my first priority and main focus, I would most likely only upload once every two weeks. I would like to thank you all though for such a positive response to my video,¬†I was overwhelmed with love and support and I am so grateful for that!

As many of you know I am a Varsity Cheerleader for my school and it is HUGELY time consuming. I spend at least thirty hours a week cheering during the school year. As we finish up summer I have only ten-twelve a week. I adore cheerleading and have for the majority of my life, please keep in mind though that during the school year cheer takes up a huge amount of my free time. ¬†I am going to try and keep you all in the loop and maybe even do a GRWM for a football game or do a Day In My Life on a game day; football is a BIG deal at my school! On top of this I am going to try and stay involved in my school’s drama department, I loved being the makeup artist and would love to continue being a part of it.

Also, I will be entering my sophomore year of high school and I¬†am so excited for this year. I¬†personally loved my first year of school and am very happy to be getting back into he swing of things in a couple weeks. I’m someone that loves routine and being busy so school inevitably keeps me that way. I also have a tough schedule this year, am taking my first AP class, and am going to be taking a Journalism class which I am so excited for! I go back exactly two weeks from today.

As Summer goes on I’ve had a lot of free time to sit and watch how much my blog has grown. I¬†am nearing 1,000 Instagram followers and recently hit 350 here on the blog. I’ve started to carry around a sense of pride in my stomach. I can not believe how far I have come from blogging. When I started I never thought it would turn into anything more than a place for me to share what I wore to school with my close friends and family. I have watched it take off and turn into so much more. I have connected with strangers, made some amazing friends, and been given the opportunity to inspire people I don’t even know and that is just absolute breath taking to me. I can not thank my friends, family, and all of you enough for helping me follow my dreams. My original goal for the end of 2016 was to hit 1,000 followers on Instagram and 500 on the blog. I am so happy to be working towards that direction, I’ve also learned so much about myself from blogging and it has allowed me to realize what kind of career I would like to pursue.

Last night as I¬†was reading my Bible I came across a verse from Proverbs; it says “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans.” It’s Proverbs 16:3 and it was the perfect reminder that as I enter this state of change in the next couple weeks I¬†mustn’t forget that when balancing school, blogging, cheer, theater, a social life, and following my dreams that I can’t¬†lose sight of the Lord, for He is the reason for all my success and¬†the root of the love I radiate to others.

If you’ve read all the way to here, thank you for listening to me ramble! I had so much to fill you in on it seems like, or maybe I just needed to start typing in order to organize my own thoughts. Anyways, please leave me any requests, comments, or feedback, I take everything you all say into consideration. I would love for you all to leave me your thoughts on the Makeup Of The Week’s and my YouTube channel, thank you in advance! I hope you all have the best day! Thank you for everything. With love, McKenz.

Makeup

Drugstore VS High-end Eye Makeup

If I’ve learned one thing about makeup over the years, it’s that you can get the high-end look for a drugstore price. It all just depends on what products you’re reaching for. I know I use a lot of high-end eyeshadow in my tutorials but I wanted to show you all that you can just as easily get the same look without breaking your bank. Today I did one eye using all high-end products and the other all drugstore. They turned out fairly similar as you will soon be able to tell.

Here is me with no makeup on, and then me with only eye makeup on.

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset
from left to right- drugstore, high-end

Processed with VSCO with a5 preset

After doing my makeup I asked four people which eye they thought was done with drugstore products and which with high-end. 4/4 said they thought the right eye (my left) was drugstore. They were all wrong; the left eye (my right) was using all drugstore products and my right eye (my left) was using high-end products. That goes to show that cheaper products can easily get the job done just as well as some of my most expensive products.

Drugstore products used on the left eye (my right): Maybelline Color Tattoo, Ulta Complete Eye Palette, Wet N Wild Comfort Zones Palette, Nyx Eyebrow Cake Powder, NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil, Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

Total Price: $38.00

High-end products used on the right eye (my left): Urban Decay Primer Potion, Too Faced Chocolate Bar, Urban Decay Naked Basics, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Total Price: $138.00

Well that’s it for today’s blog post. I hope you all enjoyed. I really wanted my readers to understand that just because the price tag is lower, does not mean that the quality is lower as well. Please leave any questions, comments, or requests below, I am always happy to chat. I¬†hope you all have a wonderful day. With love, McKenz.
