8 Ways To Style a Flannel

Oh my gosh. Right now I am currently snowed in with one of my best friends Celia. It’s currently 1:40 pm and we have a total of twenty four inches with an expectation of more snow until 10:00 pm. The only good things about being stuck inside this long means we can binge watch The Carrie Diaries on Netflix, catch up on the book I’m reading at the moment, and some major planning for Styled By McKenz’s upcoming posts. By request, today I’m showing you eight different ways to style a flannel. Old Navy is definitely my go to place to purchase a wallet-friendly flannel that is super comfy and can be styled endless amounts of ways.

Style #1: Around your waist– Although this isn’t my go to look, the fun thing about fashion is experimenting. This definetly isn’t my style but I love this outfit for a casual and super practical look.

Finding Yourself

My Faith Journey

Maryland has an inch of snow and icy conditions which was enough for the county to declare a two hour delay. Luckily, I don’t have a seventh period exam which means that I don’t have to go to school today. So I’m currently sitting on the couch procrastinating about when I should start getting ready to cheer at the basketball game this afternoon. Today I’m here on the blog talking about my faith journey. I feel that it is nobody’s place to judge someone on their relationship with God. If someone decides that it’s in their best interest to start talking with Jesus and allowing Him into their life that is their choice and their own business. After all, I’ve followed this myself. Turning to God was my choice, something I wanted to do, and I’m happy with my decision.

I grew up as a Catholic and was confirmed in September of last year. Getting confirmed completely opened up my eyes to all that God has done for me. I’ve never been the most faithful person, I haven’t always prayed every night, or read my  Bible before bed. But, there’s never a wrong time to start. So I started. I made changes, I began to pray daily, I began to ask God for his help, and thank him for what He’s already given me. I started to read my Bible every day and speak to Jesus when I felt I needed to. I finally realized that putting my trust in Him was the greatest realization of them all because.

I’m not perfect. I make mistakes. I mess up, a lot. In God’s name all of that is okay, this is all just a part of the journey God is taking us on. One of my major goals in the New Year was to spend more time with Jesus. I’ve made baby steps. I’ve also realized that baby steps are better than no steps.

I’ve started to read my Bible every night. I started the year off with Psalms because I’ve found that it’s very relateable and it speaks to me in a way that allows me to open up my eyes to God’s world. I underline, highlight, doodle, and make notes in my Bible. It’s mine so I’ve made it my own. I like to use colored pencils, pens, and highlighters. Here are some pictures of what my Bible looks like.

Psalm 19:20 “He set me free in the open; he rescued me because he loves me.” Psalm 19:21-23 “The Lord acknowledged my righteousness, rewarded my clean hands. For I kept the ways of the Lord; I was not disloyal to my God. His laws were all before me.” Psalm 19: 29-31 ” You Lord, give light to my lamp; my God brightens the darkness about me… With  my god I can leap a wall.” Psalm 16: 1-3 “I say to the Lord, you are my lord, you are my only good.”

Feel free to take a look at the pictures above and read my side notes. I like to scribble down my thoughts on the verses I’ve just read. I’ve learned that I am God’s and I need to trust him if I want to succeed under his name. By absolutely no means am I an expert on faith but I am making tiny changes in my life and allowing Jesus to influence me. I hope this has inspired you to know that there is never a wrong time to start your journey with faith. God is waiting for you and he’s welcoming you with open arms. Happy Thursday everyone. With love, McKenz.

5 Ways to Style an Army Jacket

I survived my first high school exam week and I have never felt more relieved. I’m so excited, here on the East Coast we’re getting our first big snow storm of the season, with a prediction of eighteen to twenty four inches! Super exciting, right?!! Besides that, today I’m here watching Quantico while writing today’s blog post which is based on one of my absolute favorite clothing pieces in my closet. I purchased my army jacket in October of 2015 from TJ Maxx for a whopping $20. To say that this jacket was a good purchase on my part is an understatement. I hope you enjoy these five outfit ideas that range from dressy to casual; as always outfit details will be listed below.

Off white and olive green will forever be one of my favorite combos and this outfit is always what I reach for if I’m in a rut over what to wear. It’s comfy and casual. The jacket adds an extra layer to stay warm in the winter and coordinating your socks to your sweater is an easy way to dress up your outfit and add some complexity to it.

Outfit Details: jacket – TJ Maxx, sweater – Gap, jeans – Hollister, leg warmers – Kohl’s, riding boots – Target, watch – Kate Spade, bracelets – Alex and Ani and Charming Charlie’s

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

An easy way to dress up a plain black tee and black booties. I always reach for a plaid scarf with coordinating boot socks. Along with this I like to add my army jacket to use several different textures and add a pop of color. I love this style for the weekend when I’m going out and want to look stylish but still comfortable and warm.

Outfit Details: jacket – TJ Maxx, shirt – Old Navy, scarf – Target, jeans – Hollister, booties – Steve Madden, socks – Francesca’s, watch – Kate Spade, bracelets – Alex and Ani

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

Need to spice up a dress? Add an army jacket and some jewelry! This is my go to when I feel that my outfit is bland and needs some spicing up. Along with the jacket, heeled booties add some dressiness, ensuring you to look stylish and score tons of compliments.

Outfit Details: jacket – TJ Maxx, dress – Target, tassel necklace – Forever 21, booties – Kenneth Cole Reaction, watch – Kate Spade, bracelets – Charming Charlie’s and Alex and Ani

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

Every girl needs a day spent in leggings. Black and white stripped shirts are my absolute favorite, I have enough to count on two hands. To complete this casual outfit I wore my trusty black high tops that have never gone out of style.

Outfit Details: jacket – TJ Maxx, shirt – American Eagle, leggings – Victoria’s Secret Pink, socks – Loft, shoes – Converse, watch – Kate Spade, bracelets – Alex and Ani and DSW

Processed with VSCOcam with m3 preset

Don’t be fooled, flannels can be paired with army jackets too! I like to wear mine with a scarf (the top button on my shirt came undone causing this picture to be crappy, rolls eyes) and of course paired with matching socks and coordinating boots. This outfit is perfect for school if you’re trying to look more put together or even a girls night out.

Outfit Details: jacket- TJ Maxx, flannel – Old Navy, scarf – idk sorry guys!!, jeans – Hollister, leg warmers – Francesca’s, riding boots – Target, watch – Kate Spade, bracelets – Alex and Ani

Naked Palette Reviews and Comparison

Hey friends, happy Tuesday. I am so pleased to say that tomorrow are my last two exams—Math and Spanish. It’s going to be a rough one but I’m feeling pretty good about them considering I’m finding time to write this blog post for you today. Have you been debating whether or not to purchase a Naked palette? And if so which one? If you’ve read my 2015 beauty favorites you would know that the Naked palette is my favorite one in my collection. Today I am here to review and compare Naked, Naked 2, Naked 3, and Naked Smokey. I’ve received these palettes in chronological order which is why Naked is my favorite and Naked Smokey is my least. I’ve had more time to play, swatch, and create endless looks with my older palettes. Despite this, I find that all of these palettes serve a different purpose and have their creamy formula is full of pigmentation and is certain to last all day when used with the Urban Decay Primer Potion.

Naked one is my baby as you can tell by the pictures. It can be purchased at Ulta or Sephora and retails for $54.00. This palette consists of ten sparkly shadows, and two mattes. I find that this palette is the creamiest, richest, and most pigmented of the four. These shadows are very warm toned and look absolutely stunning on olive green skin tones and people with blue and green eyes. Eye shadow names swatched from bottom to top are: gun metal, creep, hustle, toasted, dark horse, smog, half baked, buck (matte), sidecar, naked (matte), sin, and virgin.

Naked 2 is definitely my second most loved palette and is always on repeat during the high school Cheerleading season. It can be purchased at Ulta or Sephora and retails for $54.oo. Naked 2 and Naked both contain my favorite Urban Decay eye shadow of all—half baked, which is a beautiful, creamy gold. This palette also contains booty call which is another favorite color for highlighting the inner corner and brow bone. This palette never disappoints when in need of a subtle, silver, smokey eye. It contains three matte shadows and nine sparkly. I recommend this for brown or hazel eyes. Eye shadow names swatched from bottom to top are: black out (matte), busted, ydk, verve, pistol, suspect, snake bite, tease (matte), chopper, booty call, half baked, and foxy (matte).

Naked 3 is absolutely perfect if you love rose gold undertones, have fair skin, or have blue eyes. This pallet can be bought at Ulta or Sephora and retails for $54.00. This palette has three matte shadows and nine shimmery. Although the last third of this palette looks super dark, the majority of this palette shows up on the lighter side and is super gorgeous. This is a great one for the spring and summer time and looks the most beautiful of them all. Dust has the most fall out of the four palettes and black heart is a perfect color for the outer V and lower lash line. Eye shadow names swatched from bottom to top are: black heart, dark side, mug shot, factory, liar, nooner (matte) , trick, buzz, limit (matte), burnout, dust, and strange (matte).

Naked Smokey is essentially Naked Four. This palette was recently launched in September of 2015 and instantly got mixed reviews. Naked Smokey can be found at Ulta and Sephora and retails for $54.00. This palette has the prettiest packaging of them all with a tortoise shell inspired case and a gorgeous crystal clear mirror. This palette has four matte shades and eight sparkly shadows; six of them are cool toned and six of them have warm undertones. I feel that this palette aimed to fit all skin types and coloring. However, the formula of this palette has changed from the first three leaving shadows a little harder to blend and causing more fallout. Eye shadow names swatched from bottom to top are: thirteen, combust, whiskey, password, smolder, black market, dagger, slanted, armor (matte), radar (matte), dirty sweet (matte), and high (matte).

I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on all four Naked palettes by Urban Decay and that this helped you in any way, shape, or form. They are by far my favorite and hold a special place in my heart. Wishing you a very awesome Wednesday ahead. With love, McKenz.
